Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Yeah.

Although Kate Bishop would totally start being Hawkeye even if he wasn't dead.

Teddy could probably be introduced now. Sure skrulls are yet to be introduced, but you could introduce them through him.

A young avengers film wouldn't have to be roster accurate. I expect both young avengers and the always possible Runaways TV show to play it pretty fast and loose with ita rosters considering the wealth of teen superheros currently at Marvel.

I expect the young avengers to have Wiccan, Hulkling, America and Kate for sure as they're the biggest names in the comics at the moment. But outside of that who knows.

Also. Jeez that souls thing was far more convoluted than I expected. I always assumed she simply pinched them from a potential universe where Vision was human.

I'd throw Ms. Marvel into the mix - she's not a Young Avenger, but she's definitely one of the more popular young heroes.

And honestly, in the current political climate, I think she's sorely needed.

By the way, for those who didn't know about Excalibur/Faiza Hussain, there is a great comic where she becomes the next Captain Britain.

I am not sure if Marvel has the rights...the British heroes are so tightly connected with the X-men, it might be another case of shared rights.

[up] ...Well, Dust has been established as a mutant, but Excalibur has never been classified as a mutant, right?

God, I hate Fox....

I THOUGHT she was captain Britain, but I wasn't sure. Shame it's all trapped in alternative timelines

Khamala deserves her own solo film franchise. And likewise the Young Avengers deserve to exist outside of her shadow.

There shouldn't be any issues with Faiza. There was a British X-Men spinoff called Excalibur, but that's not where she comes from. She's from a lesser known book called Captain Britain and MI-13, which was like Excalibur just without any of that X-Men stuff.

Also I don't think the rights were bought up in a big umbrella like that.

You laugh, but I'll bet that's on Disney's list of things they want to buy eventually.

On the subject Psylocke might possibly be a shared rights case but other than that I think most British heroes would be fine for Marvel to use.

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye is already the Worst Avenger anyway, so I would love to see Kate Bishop in the MCU. tongue

I really don't care at this point. If and when they let go of the x men rights, cool. Until that day im kinda over this debate.
