Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Nothing's likely to change. Fine still reports to Perlmutter and worked under him for years.

[up] I only know him for directing a lousy DTV Wolfman spinoff.

EDIT: No, I don't, I was thinking of someone else. I mostly know Reine for the other DTV sequels to Universal properties.

Oof, Roel Reine isn't a bad director, but he's not especially good either. His Dutch film, The Admiral was one of the most expensive Dutch films ever made and also a huge mess. It's widely regarded as one of the better modern Dutch films, but that has more to do with the quality of most of our movies than with that one being especially good. tongue

Looks like they're filming a funeral scene.[1] It'd be a great way to open the movie.

Not to mention it'd be a good way to get everyone together and reminiscing about their past, helping set up the characters' backstories.

The death of a king is a hell of a note to start out on. I'm looking forward to seeing that.

Will Ross wear the devil's pants in this movie?

Andy Serkis is now the last piece of the puzzle left unconfirmed (though I honestly would not be surprised if he's in it).

I bet if you asked Martin Freeman if his character wore the devil's pants in his next movie he would instantly say yes regardless of if he knew what the hell you were talking about.

Interesting that Danai Gurira is also shaved or at least wearing a skullcap, I guess that's going to be standard costuming for the Dora Milaje. Their comic appearances during the Priest series got kinda silly at times.

Elizabeth Olsen doesn't start filming Infinity War until April, so for those worried about the whole Cumberbatch thing, that's really common for big ensembles like this. Dave Bautista starts tomorrow, though. Still hasn't seen the script, lol.
