Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

In the comics the capital of Wakanda is Birnin Zana, but maybe they're changing that for the movie.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It says a city of Wakanda. Yeah, it's probably the capital, but that's not the same as implying one city is the entire country.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. So, I was rewatching Civil War on Netflix for the New Year, and I was reminded of something: did we ever get word on whether or not Mariah Dillard from Luke Cage and that one nameless woman from the beginning of the movie with the same actress as her are the same character? Because it would introduce a very interesting wrinkle in Mariah's character if they are.
The idea of an NYC councilwoman going to Boston, pretending to be someone she isn't with a kid she doesn't have just to hassle Tony Stark, a billionaire who lives in the same city she does...would be pretty funny, actually. And it would make at least as much sense as any of Diamondback's plans, I'm sure.
Word of God is no and that her being cast in Luke Cage is mostly coincidental. Apparently RDJ recommended her for Civil War and they had her name on the books as someone good to have around.

Not to mention Tony failing to recognize a politician who was fairly recently embroiled in a very high profile corruption scandal.
Also isn't the first case of You Look Familiar in an MCU production.

I believe she was cast as a favour to RDJ— they've been friends for years. I don't think they expected to have a part as meaty as Mariah Dillard at the time. What a difference a day makes, huh?
Thing is most examples are briefer or look a lot different (like Buri and the Irish mobster from Daredevil). Mariah and the woman suffer from being both pretty pivotal characters (as the woman's talk with Stark directly triggers the movie's entire conflict) and looking fairly similar.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I think the characters are acted differently enough that I would have most likely not even noticed if someone hadn't told me. Granted, I have a really bad memory for faces. And names. But it is not that hard to compartmentalize it. I would prefer if Marvel would be more careful with stuff like this, but it is hardly a deal breaker for me.
I agree, though I'm very glad they didn't count her out for the part of Mariah just because she happened to have already played Miriam.
The two characters both look like Alfre Woodard, but Miriam's more frumpy and motherly, as she should be. The character is important, but she didn't stick with me so much that I had any trouble setting her apart from Mariah in my head.
I agree - she's such a minor character that she was never really on my mind when I was watching Luke Cage.
(And really, why would it be the same person - what does a city councilwoman turned mob boss care about Tony Stark?)

Oh God! Natural light!Because shitting on Tony Stark is the duty of every man, woman and child on Earth.
He needs to be held responsible for his crimes, his perceived crimes, his father's crimes, and everyone else's fuck ups.

One Strip! One Strip!Question: Am I the only one who wants to see Black Widow in a knock down, drag out, no holds barred fight? So far, all of her fights have been against either Hawkeye or mooks. Let's give her a boss battle to really show what she can do when she goes all out.
Something along the lines of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pych_H351zI
