Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Liked it until the "kill everyone you love" line...it's just so cliché, plus, I really, really wanted the fight between Spider-man and the Vulture NOT be personal this time around.
The "don't do what I did but also not what I wouldn't do" line was great. I really love that they take full advantage of the deal.
Back to Netflix: Since the Schedule is full, I currently don't really want more shows, though I want more heroes turning up in the ones which already exist. Most of those heroes work the best if they have someone to interact while being heroic. But I also want Marvel to explore other properties on other channels and play with the format. I have to admit, I was originally against the notion of Ghostrider in the MCU, because I felt that would be a little bit too wacky for me to accept. But Agents of Shield did it, I am now actually liking the idea of a Midnight Sons spin-off.
Still sad though that Damage Control is apparently no longer a thing, though...but then, I have the feeling that this one would work better as occasional special than as a sit-com.
Given the scene shown for the line, it doesn't seem like Vulture's actually talking to Spider-Man there. Unless Spidey's found himself in the back of his car, and Vulture decided to be all "casual threatening" with him while not in his suit.
If they're going with Vulture leading a posse of bad guys that goes supervillain, he might be talking to one of his subordinates. From what little I see, I get the feeling he and Shocker don't pan out as a partnership.
Sort of like proto-Captain Cold in this (there's a better scene for this in the series, but I couldn't find it).

Okay, I didn't watch the trailer, because honestly, I'm just not interested in Spider Man he used to be my favorite superhero, but I lost most interest over time, and reading so many discussions/arguments about him in this very thread killed any that was left. Sorry., but. But. Remember all those months ago when it had just been announced that MCU!Spidey would debut in Civil War? And how everybody was praising the casting of Tom Holland because he actually looked like the teenager he'd be playing? I think they overshot the mark; in that screenshot he looks like a damn 12 year old! and now I'm doubly furious that Tony Stark saw this kid and still thought putting him in a fight against Captain America, the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and whoever they might've picked up along the way was in any way acceptable. I don't give a shit what Peter had that Tony thought he could use; that was immoral and irresponsible, and he should get on his knees and thank god every day that Peter wasn't maimed or killed. I sincerely (though vainly) hope his Homecoming cameo is Peter telling him to go fuck himself. But I understand this is just my own opinion, and I'm not going to fight with people over it. That's what tumblr is for
.

Since Daredevil looks and is shot so much more better than Arrow in every department, I highly doubt that.

Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesThe Netflix shows use their budget really wisely. It helps, for example that they actually spring the money to shoot in New York, but then they keep the actual outside scenes to a minimum in order to save some money. It doesn't matter though because those poorly light hallways work very well overall. Keeping it darker also helps with the rooftop scenes. The ones in Arrow always look fake because they are clearly shot on a set. Plus, the CW shows actually are on the lower end of budgets for Network TV...it is, after all, CW and not CBS, Fox or ABC.
It also helps that the Netflix shows tend to have a smaller cast. Sure, there are a lot of peripheral characters which keep turning up, but those don't get paid like a show regular does.

Arrow (specifically) is generally more advanced in terms of budget and overall cinematography like staging and camera movement. That's not saying any of the MCU Netflix shows are poorly shot or a lesser product altogether, this is specifically how the budget impacts on the look and feel of a show or movie. Each season of Daredevil has a one or two ultra impressive sequences if only because they have the running time to do a 3 minute fight as The Oner just because. But in terms of the standard episode action sequence, Arrow uses some long takes, big stunts, outdoor set pieces and more than six characters in the frame nearly every episode. Beyond that it's mostly apples and oranges, the Arrowverse isn't going to have something like The Punisher shanking prisoners and left drenched in their blood, so it's just going to have a much different feel there.
Trailer seems to confirm the theory that Shocker is a Collective Identity in this film.
Trailer's great. I am LOVING Tony's role in the movie already, I'm totally sold on Tom Holland as Peter Parker, and I'm also thrilled by their take on Vulture. He looks amazing, and everything feels like it fits perfectly into the MCU.
What I'm not thrilled by: the compositing of Peter and Miles. Ned is obviously Ganke which would be awkward enough if the film wasn't also hinting that Peter and Totes-Not-Ganke live together in a dorm, just like Miles.
Compositing Peter and Miles means that we're never going to see Miles. Ever. He will not be a thing, because his story was already strip-mined for usable elements to give to the white Spider-Man.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
