Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Lately, I've been thinking more about Hulk's role in Ragnarok, and I've been getting more worried about it. A big part of that is that I think Marvel might be misunderstanding why fans want to see an MCU version of Planet Hulk in the first place.
It might be different for some fans, I don't want a Planet Hulk movie just because I want to see the Hulk be a gladiator. Because that's not what made Planet Hulk my favourite Marvel comic of all time. I loved the comic because it made the Hulk a central character with Character Development, instead of just Banner's superpower. It gave us the Hulk's Warbound and showed us the growing bond and camaraderie between them. It took Hulk off the world where he was seen as little more than a monster and onto a world where he could truly be the hero in the eyes of its people. It gave Hulk a developed love interest with her own character arc and stakes in the story, so it actually affected the readers and story when she died.
But I fear we won't get any of that, because it's being stuffed into the same movie as Thor's search for answers about the Infinity Stones, his and Loki's quest to find Odin, Hela's takeover of Asgard, the Grandmaster's machinations, the titular Ragnarok, and a teamup with Doctor Strange. Between all of that, I don't see how there will be any room for the parts of Planet Hulk that made it great to begin with.
It really does seem that Marvel only thinks we want a Planet Hulk movie to see Hulk as a gladiator, which is really just that comic's most superficial elements, and once the movie's over, we won't have another chance to see any of the stuff I mentioned, because as far as Marvel will be concerned, we will have "already got a Planet Hulk movie."
And there's also the fact that my favourite Marvel comic ever is being stuffed into someone else's movie as an afterthought while the garbage fire that was Civil War got an entire movie to itself, but that's really just a nitpick by comparison, since Captain America: Civil War was awesome.
You were never going to get a Planet Hulk movie anyway because Universal still has the distribution rights to movies with Hulk in the title.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAt the end of AOU Bruce pushed himself to a much lonely existence. im curious to see where he goes. i feel bad for him after watching the guy work hard to better his reputation and creditably.
i think TR would be a good way for the two Avengers to figure out who they are and who they are not. AOU hinted at a dilemma of identity for Thor in the most subtle manner possible while clear as day for Bruce. once Thanos shows up they are ready to accept whatever fate happens. nows is the time to gather that strength
however im scared Waititi might ignore previous storylines. im sure he will make a fun film though the thor and hulk might not match up with where AOU emotionally left them
GOG 2 trailer comes out tmr

When has Marvel Studios ever done a straight-up adaptation of a comics storyline? The most they ever do is take the basic premise and then do their own thing with it.
Not to mention, the ones who booted Hulk into space were all personal friends of Bruce, making it a personal attack on him as well as the Hulk. In the MCU case, he and Tony are the Science Bros but otherwise he doesn't know T'Challa or Strange, Xavier and Reed don't even exist and Black Bolt isn't a thing yet. The circumstances are totally different for Bruce, if not the Hulk (who lots of people are gunning for anyway.)
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."The trailer isn't even out yet and people are complaining about how it doesn't include stuff that they want? Please.
I love World War Hulk and even I don't want to see the entire thing in this movie, because it's too long and wouldn't fit with Thor, but individual elements would certainly be interesting. I'm thinking that they will have Hulk and Thor fighting in an arena along with Hulk's Warbound — and then they'll escape and go along with the rest of the movie on a cosmic roadtrip to stop Hela and Ragnarok. Which is about as anti-Planet Hulk as you can go, but which we've known would happen since the very beginning.
Hell, if anything, I want there to be more Ragnarok stuff in it, but I would like it if they brought along the Warbound with Hulk and Thor. Making them into the group that fights against Ragnarok (instead of simply Thor and a bunch of humans and Asgardians) would make it really interesting.

On some level I do understand that concern, I do. But at this point the ship has sailed on a solo Hulk movie, so it's not like they're wasting a story they could be doing as a standalone.
So Marvel vs Capcom Infinite has been confirmed, and Captain Marvel is one of the characters revealed in the initial teaser. Probably a good indication of what her movie appearance will be, since it seems like they're trying very hard to make her a flagship Marvel character with a very iconic appearance. Long hair is very likely, as is the sash, and we may be seeing some explicit Warbird/Binary powers in the film as well.
Also I've heard a rumor that no mutants will appear in the game because of the Fox split, which sounds like a goddamn terrible idea if you ask me. Though if Perlmutter puts his conniving foot down on it, they could make mutant characters DLC as a compromise.

love how the helmet looks kinda high tech to reflect Thor comes from outter space. i mean hulk's helmet doesnt look primitive
