Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Red Wolf
,a Bad Ass Native American vigilante from the Old West. And if that one doesn't suit your fancy, there's still 2 or 3 other RW's out there, with at least one of which still being around nowadays.
Took me a second to remember and had to double check he was Native American, but the X Men character Forge is a Stereotype Flip along those lines- a Native American character with technology-based powers. Although as per The Other Wiki, "He also possesses various mystical abilities such as spell casting through mystical training, though he rarely uses these. He possesses extensive knowledge of Native American magic."
One step forward, two steps back I guess.

Silverclaw is at least half native South American
But her powers come from being the daughter of a volcano goddess so not exactly unstereotypical
Forever liveblogging the AvengersKind of.
With the partial exception of Wonder Woman (who is a fictional character but tied into the Amazons of Greco-Roman mythology), those characters are characters from a real world mythology who were adapted into comic books.
Whereas she and the Native American characters are people who have powers by way of their "mystical" ancestry. Like the comparison would be if a Swedish American character had powers due to their Viking ancestry and/or because they were the child of say Thor, Odin, or Loki.
And yeah, that
kind of gets at the difference. It's the difference between being a Captain Ethnic and being a "mythological character".

Alpha Flight,
and/or any of the characters connected to them.
IIRC, they got a nod in Agents of SHIELD a couple seasons ago, though that's not necessarily saying much.

As much as I'd love to see Alpha Flight show up, aren't they still technically X-Men characters? Of all of the Marvel Superteams, that was the one I thought would never see the light of day, on account of both being tied to the X-Men and the fact that if Fox gave a damn about them, then you think they'd have done something with them by now. But if it turns Marvel actually has the rights, I'd be ecstatic. Even a cameo would be something.
...maybe?
Alpha Flight originated as X-Men characters, and admittedly the X-Men tend to be the only characters they interact with, but they've also been their own thing with their own section of the verse for a really long time. They've gone from being "part of Wolverine's Canadian backstory" to "Canada's Avengers."
I've see them as being to X-Men what the New Gods are to Superman. A group that's when you get right down to it a separate entity, but one which only ever seems to get its interaction with The 'Verse through the latter.
I expect the Fox executives wouldn't see it the same way, though.

Several weeks late, but I saw Doctor Strange. It was fun. Dug the kung fu magic fights and didn't overthink the ending.
