Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up] Except for the fact that in an interview, Scott Derrickson said that the woman hit by lightning "might" be Carol Danvers. It's probably not her, but there is at least that little bit of evidence.

Yes because as we know, MCU directors and actors never give vague answers just to fuck with people.

I at first believed that the Soul Stone would be a Composite Character with the Norn stones, but they are very different as to make it work.

A possibility is that Loki use the Norn Stones to defeat his non-daughter.

A spinoff would be pretty sweet. And would give his character more longevity.

I mentioned over in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. thread that Robbie's fate would probably depend on whether he gets spun off. Like the Punisher, he's set in a very gray area where he's too dark to get along well with the heroes for long, but he opposes the villains. With rising tension over his violent impulses and unapologetic murder spree, one of two things was inevitably going to happen: either Robbie gets spun off and ends the season in some way distanced from S.H.I.E.L.D. so they can't pursue him, or he does not get spun off and the Ghost Rider is resolved by season's end.

In the show, he's fast becoming a problem in need of a solution. There's no way for him to jovially part ways with S.H.I.E.L.D. "S.H.I.E.L.D. v. Ghost Rider" is going to be a thing before season 4 ends. Whether Marvel wants to spin him off is inevitably going to be the deciding factor on how permanent the outcome to that conflict is.

For a Ghost Rider series I would like a Two Lines, No Waiting style with Danny Ketch, Johnny Blaze, and Robbie .

I would love a Midnight Sons series, with the show really delving into magic and the supernatural.

I also vote for calling the show midnight sons if for no other reason than that it would allow the writers more freedom to introduce non-Ghostrider characters and tell their stories.

[up][up]And because Midnight Sons is just a kickass name that goes past cheesy and into cheesily awesome. It just sort of rolls of the tongue, you know?tongue

Oh my god, that's so comic book it hurts. All they need to do is just get rid of the head and have it be a headless robot with a TV in its chest.

Totally random question...but if you had to pick songs which summon up the movies in the MCU, which ones would you pick? I would choose "This is War" for The First Avenger and "It's my life" for Ironman 2...otherwise I am still thinking.....

I've never been good at that type of thing. I have a few songs I listen too whenever I think of an awesome moment, but that's it.

So, I don't know if I'm late to the party, but thanks to this video I noticed that the Wasp showed in the quantum realm.

Also, I will say that the main theme of this movie is one of my favorites, as is the scene of Scott running alongside the ants.

I love that Zola design where his holographic head is sticking up out of a headless robot body.

It's interesting that they're considering having him return, though. I did like his One-Scene Wonder in Winter Soldier but I wouldn't object at all if he's still around.

My favorite was the design he retains the Winter Soldier screen in his chest, but has a Uncanny Valley mannequin head and lobster claws. It fits with his general aesthetic of "prototype, rough robot".
