Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It depends on the newcomer...but we had one with us for Doctor Strange and he was pretty much blown away. Anyway, just pick one of the origin movies...perhaps not necessarily The Incredible Hulk, because it is the weakest one, but otherwise, everything goes, one just has to ensure that it fits the taste of the watcher...someone who really doesn't care about Star Wars and Star Trek is unlikely to be interested in Got G for example.
I've only seen Iron Man and Civil War in theatres so far, so I probably can't judge. You can't go wrong with those two, I think, and Winter Soldier, too. And I suspect I might have liked both Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy better if I had seen them on a big screen first, and both seem like good points to jump in. The rest, rent.
If this casting call is true, that's interesting.
Looks like that's it for any remaining hope from some people that the cast would be 100% black. I'm assuming it's for scenes at embassies and the like.

I will say this about the MCU's diversity: aside from The Incredible Hulk (which has a cast of like, five people), there isn't a single MCU movie without a named POC in the main cast.
That's pretty insignificant in the scheme of things, though. Movies that have at least one named person of color are more or less the norm these days. Movies that actually manage to be inclusive towards said person, on the other hand...
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."It's why I was completely unimpressed by Marvel's recent declaration that they're done with all-white superhero movies. Because aside from The Incredible Hulk (I think), they've never done an all-white movie. And that doesn't mitigate their severe representation issues - it just means that somewhere in Marvel's corporate creation machine, there's a guy whose job it is to make sure that the "Diverse Casting" box always gets ticked.
That's really not how inclusivity works, at least going by the definition as used by most representation activists.

"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."It would, in fact, be infinitely more racially inclusive, because it provides central roles for characters who need representation (read: characters who are not white). Something no other MCU film has done to any sufficient degree.
Besides, as per the casting call that was posted, they're also seeking Korean and Filipino actors. I can't exactly name offhand another MCU film that has actively sought out actors of numerous Asian ethnicities.

I'd think Renner would probably be too expensive for a Netflix show, if nothing else. That said, I'd probably put both Clint and Kate in - looking at the same issues from different sides, so to speak. And they're fun together.
Well, there is Klaw, who is on the outside, and who makes for a good minor villain. And is white. And has already been cast. The casting call sounds like it's for extras.

No, but he's still one of the likeliest white characters to appear, seeing that he is a major Black Panther villain and already exists in the MCU. We have no confirmation on Ross either, yet I'd be very surprised if he's not in the movie, as he's also a BP character, and already interacted with T'Challa. Not to mention that there was literally no reason for him to be Everett Ross if they weren't planning to have him show up in BP.

Wasn't it confirmed early on that Freeman was going to be in BP and that's why everyone jumped to Ross in the first place? Anyway the Russos confirmed that some of the minor characters in Civil War were meant to show up in future movies, and I can't help but think they were referring to Ross and Zemo.

So, which Marvel movies do you guys think would fall into the three modern category to recommend to a newcomer: See in theater, rent or skip?
To me, the order is: Theater: CA: The Winter Soldier, CA: Civil War, Iron Man, Avengers
Rent: Got G, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Ao U, CA: TFA, Ant-Man
Skip: Thor: The Dark World, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2
Thor can go either way depend on if the viewers like Fantasy or not.
Which category would Dr. Strange into?
