Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Not on the big screen, and the movies don't really tend to acknowledge much about the small screen, street level* type TV heros in any case. Playing on the alcoholism angle could actually be pretty interesting given Stark's own history with that particular problem - if the plan is to phase out Stark as a headline act but keep him in the storyline he could be a mentor or sponsor of Carol's (who as an Air Force member he would meet via Rhodey.)
- By which I mean they literally operate on the streets of NYC, not a power level thing as Jess, Luke and Danny could all feasibly hang with the main Avengers in power-level terms, probably Matt too though he lacks the hitting power the others have innately or through gadgets.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I think my "alien abduction" origin is still the best option that stays spiritually true to the source material while taking pragmatic liberties. The main conflict facing The Kree (besides the Skrulls) was the fact that they were reaching an evolutionary dead end, hence their efforts at coming up with an artificial method to induce the next phase of their evolution (Terrigen Mist being one of them). And given how ruthless they tend to be portrayed as, it makes sense that they would kidnap humans and experiment on them like lab monkeys. So they could snatch Danvers and Rambeau, and start messing with their DNA/cells with Mar-Vell himself being the reluctant Chief Scientist coordinating the experiments. So that's all three of the title-holders having more-or-less significant roles in the same movie without it being a copy-and-paste comic book adaptation.

My guess is that they are still deciding whether or not to fold her origin story (or at least how she gets powers) into Infinity War. The direction they go here at minimum changes the entire first act of the movie.
If they fold her origin story into Infinity War, then I could see them do something like have Carol Danvers get involved simply because they needed an awesome pilot, and then she ends up pulling a heroic sacrifice to destroy the weapon Thanos is using to attack Earth. However instead of dying she ends up being transformed by the weapon's power.
Then her movie can start with her already having superpowers, but not really understanding their potential.
Either way, I do think it's very important to have some sort of cause -> effect relationship between what she does in Infinity War and her gaining superpowers.
I don't know who put this in the WMG section for Black Panther but it's perfect. I'm still laughing.
Perfection.

I'd rather have her origin be Kree-related. There's only so many liberties you can take with a character's back story and/or character arc before it stops feeling like an "adaptation" (even loosely) and starts smelling like someone wiped their own ass with the comics. I want to see Captain Marvel, not "Captain Infinity".
In fact after "Ego-lord", I'm really concerned about the cosmic side of the MCU.

No. It's crying over something far more important. I dont want to turn around and see Wasp getting her head bitten off by someone, or Doctor Doom as CEO of Assholes Inc., or Galactus as a cloud, space gnats, or Trevor fucking Slattery! My manbaby tears are warranted (this time)!

Trevor Slattery was great, and this version of Peter Quill (and Drax, and Ronan, and Tony Stark for that matter) is likable enough to justify the changes from my perspective. I have enough faith in the MCU's guiding hand at this point that I can believe the changes they make will make for a good movie and overarching metaplot even if it does mean drastic changes to comics lore.
If Ayesha/Kismet/Her is the closest we get to Adam Warlock (for now) and Captain Marvel's origin story is some hybrid of all the *other* Captain Marvels Marvel has had, I'm pretty sure I can live with that. It's not like this is some classic origin story which warrants being endlessly and repeatedly retold like a Greek myth, like Batman or Spider-Man's.
Wasp getting her head bitten off happens in Marvel Zombies, I think. Galactus as a cloud is Ultimate Galactus, but I assume you already knew that.

In the idea I am working with, Thanos's weapon could be built by the Kree and have reality-warping capabilities. Thus making it a clear version of the Psyche-Magnatron.
I would even go as far as making Yon-Rogg the dragon to Thanos in Infinity War.
That way she gets her superpowers in a manner fairly equivalent to how she got it in the comics. The only real difference would be the context.
Everytime you say something like that, Tobey Macguire gets closer to being cast as Shazam.

"Die Hard" on an X. Carol infiltrates a Kree ship and learns about the Kree Supreme Intelligence's plans, then willingly uses the wishing machine to give herself powers. Powers she then uses to kick ass and stop the Kree Invasion with.

Sounds like the Captain Marvel director delay is because they're still trying to figure out how to fit it in with the next Avengers movie
.
Also while talking about her strength he said they need to make sure she has realistic flaws as a human to counterbalance her powers. I wonder if they might use her drinking problem.
