Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

How did Fox using Viper in The Wolverine work? They didn't originally have to era to her, so I know they paid extra, but was that renting the rights for one movie, or for a longer time span?
I'm rather tempted by the idea that the Myphisto rumour is true, and so Sigourney would be playing an actual devil.
(Thematically I do believe Myphisto would work, and would be a good presence to shoo out The Hand pretty early on)
Since people are talking about the Hand. Danny is a weapon against them that's conffirmed. Not just a weapon but the only weapon strong enough. The IW is basically vowed to stopping them. Hardold knows some of this stuff, including danny being rescued by monks though not the exact location where they took him. K'un Lun is a heavenly city and Danny is one of many of its immortal weapons selected to be it's champion. Claire has been training with Colleen, who is a bloody mess of a fighter. To get back his company he is working with Hogarth. Danny is a graceful kung fur fighter who has powers like minor bullet time
The basic plot is similar to the original comic's origin mixed with the iron fist immortal series mixed with new stuff like exploring deeper into family relationships the Machiame company etc. Tbc

Someone on these forums told me that IGH is probably going to be equivalent to MGH (Mutant Growth Hormone) from the comics, in which case the 'I' could easily stand for 'Inhuman'. Or they might still change it to something else entirely, who knows.
If the Hand were originally planned as the Defenders' main threat, then Daredevil getting an early second season was probably self-sabotaging in a few ways— they couldn't give away too much of what they had planned for Defenders, but the Hand still had to do *something*.
Kinda makes me wish Elektra had just been sent by Fisk and the Hand had been cut out entirely. Punisher, Kingpin, and more screentime/character development for Elekra, that could've worked.

Honestly, the more elements for Immortal Iron Fist they use, the better. Fraction and Brubaker's run was probably the best Iron Fist run ever and it managed to subvert a lot of the Mighty Whitey elements by including loads of flashbacks to previous Iron Fists and have Danny not just be a lone "chosen one," but a member of a long lineage along with all the rest of the Immortal Weapons.
I was referring to Danny being made to be a weapon against The Hand, specifically.
The rest of the stuff looks pretty awesome, I'll say. I'm just waiting to see who Sigourney Weaver is gonna be playing in The Defenders. I've heard some people speculate she'll be Mephisto.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Clearly, Danny's going to be the legendary white chosen one at martial arts, destined to eradicate or convert all Asian people from their evil ways, using their own dark Asian magic against them in a fight for white justice against the Yellow Peril!
Note: I'm not trying to offend anyone, nor make fun of their concerns, just simply looking at the given information from as comically exaggerated pessimism as possible.

I'm willing to chalk that up to the material she was given, which was pretty awful as well. I mean, there's some writing that no actor can carry off, no matter how skilled. The Star Wars prequels are a prime example.
It's still entirely possible that she really is just a bad actor in addition to having been given bad material, naturally, but until I see some evidence of that I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Possibly similar to the Maximoff twin kerfluffle. She was created as a villain in Captain America & The Falcon but she had some very notable storylines as an X-Men villain too.
Well, I could have done without the chosen one line from the trailer. Not just because of the questionable implications there, but I am above all tired of chosen ones plots.
I doubt that they use IGH for the Defenders if for no other reason that they well need something for Jessica Jones season 2 and she has next to no villain Gallery as it is. You don't even need one full hand to count them.
But SW will be great no matter who she plays because SW is great in anything. She is actually kind of too good for TV....but I am glad we get her.
With the recurring idea of people trying to harness, bottle and sell superpowers (or weapons that can harm those with superpowers) in Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, it might be interesting if the villainous organization pulling the strings was The Maggia (modeled in particular after Count Nefaria's Maggia), having evolved over the years since Peggy's day. The downside is that the perfect character for Sigourney in that case would be Whitney Frost, who Agent Carter has already used.
Or an actual version of AIM. in which case she could be playing Monica Rappaccini.
Or... wait... even better. Who has the rights to Lucia Von
Bardas?
Of those, I'd say Maggia and a de-Latverianized Bardas might be likely to one or more Defenders members having history with them (or having supporting cast / villains associated with them).

Sigourney Weaver!!!
I'm someone who endlessly makes fun of the Sand Snake Spice Girls - was GOT ever lazier in writing any characters? Even unnamed wildling extras may have more depths - but I'm definitely giving Jessica Henwick the benefit of the doubt. I think you can't really measure any acting talent with that material.

Sorry if I seem like I'm trying to make people feel guilty for wanting to watch it - it's just that this whole thing has been pretty damn frustrating for me as an Asian-American comics nerd, so I wind up wanting to do some venting now and then.
This whole Iron Fist thing has just been infuriating for me from start to finish. But it'd be pretty hypocritical for me to condemn people for liking something despite its less savory elements, because we all do that. So watch away.
