Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

[LAST SCENE OF THE SEASON FINALE OF AGENTS OF SHIELD.]
ROBBIE: Thanks for helping me out, Daisy, but I have to go figure out all this stuff on my own now. Ghosts, demons, the Darkhold. I need more information.
DAISY: But are you sure about this guy? I mean, you did find him over the Internet.
ROBBIE: You checked him out, though. And besides, I think I can take care of myself.
DAISY: Sure. But do you even know his name?
[SUDDENLY, WESLEY SNIPES WALKS UP TO THEM, DARK SHADES AND TRENCH-COAT, BAG PULLED OVER HIS BACK.]
BLADE: It's Brooks. Eric Brooks. And don't worry. I'm from a group that knows about these sorts of things.
ROBBIE: A group? What sort of group?
BLADE: We call ourselves the Midnight Sons...

Do y'all know what this means?
We probably won't have to put up with The Hand, and all the associated Unfortunate Implications, like the original trailer was implying.
...wishful thinking? Edit:
Man, I hope that Iron Fist doesn't get a costume. 'Cause then Matt just looks ridiculous.

God, I certainly hope not. I could really do without an entire series about non-Asian people fighting the evil Yellow Peril.
But who knows, maybe Weaver's character will just turn out to be the white person in charge of the Hand, Swinton-style.note

"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."I could definitely see a scenario where all the mystical ninja stuff is ultimately just one part PUN! of the Hand. Given that they have a connection to the very western Roxxon Oil Corporation, it's not that much of a stretch really.
So perhaps after the events of Daredevil Season 2 the mystical ninja division is rotated out of New York City and the division led by Sigourney Weaver's character is rotated in. Or perhaps the Hand has splintered into several different factions over the years and Sigourney Weaver's character leads a more destructive faction that split off from group we saw in Daredevil many years ago and by now only resemble primary organization only insofar as they have access to some of the same secrets.
Technically it could be Fisk as he's more of a "NYC villain" overall. He's tangled with Spider-Man, Punisher, Luke Cage, Fantastic Four, The Avengers, etc before in the comics. So if they had wanted him as the big bad of The Defenders, then it would have worked fine.
As for Weaver, I love the casting. I also have no idea who she might be playing.
Well hey, if it's any consolation, at least we're getting an Asian villain who's there to get the snot beat out of him by the white guy. And an Asian woman who's there to play love interest to said white guy. If we're lucky, Shang-Chi might even show up to play sidekick to the white guy. We got all kinds of representation going on here.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Honestly, y'all are making me feel guilty for even wanting to watch it now. I'm not particularly happy about the casting, but I still wanna see it just to check it out and hope it's good.
Plus, the fight scenes look alright.
