Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If I had to guess? Given that the character didn't even exist when Civil War was being filmed, chances are that they just relatively recently decided to bring back Kasumba after all the attention her One-Scene Wonder part got, and went with Ayo because there aren't a lot of named Doras after Nakia and Okoye.

They offered David Letterman a cameo in Homecoming and he basically said hell no.
The funniest story I read all morning.
So now we know who one of the villains of Iron Fist will be.
Lewis Tan will be playing Zhou Cheng
, a servant of Ch'i-Lin
, who is tasked with killing "every iteration of the Iron Fist." This actually gives me some hope: Zhou Cheng is from the Immortal Iron Fist run and comes after the amazing "Seven Heavenly Cities" arc — and could well facilitate flashbacks to various other Iron Fists before Danny.
What's interesting, however, is that Lewis Tan also audited for Danny Rand himself and wanted to be in the lead role. I haven't seen anything he's in, so I don't know if he would have been any good, but I'm glad he was cast as at least the villain (who seems to hate all Iron Fists, not just Danny).
It also gives me hope that we might see the rest of the Immortal Weapons
. I want to see Fat Cobra and Bride of Nine Spiders, dammit.

I get the sense Zhou will serve a similar function to Nobu in Daredevil's first season and IGH in Jessica Jones: The big, mysterious villain who teases a larger plot and readies the Sequel Hook whilst Steel Serpent fills in the Wilson Fisk/Kilgrave function of "the master arch enemy".
God willing, the remaining Immortal Weapons will be part of the Sequel Hook.
PS: Luke Cage isn't included in that analogy because I haven't seen it yet.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It means they seriously considered nonwhite people for the role, like the leaked casting sheet for the show suggested they did. That's a small improvement from what was going to happen originally, where it was expected they were going to do the same as for Spider-Man where the Sony casting sheet required only white actors to audition.
Especially when it comes to roles like Iron Fist, where the Mighty Whitey stuff is in dire need of being excised from the character. And while it's potentially heartening to see that they were even considering casting an Asian actor as Captain Asia, it's also important to remember that, at the end of the day, they didn't. When we're getting the MCU's fifty millionth White Male Lead, the fact that they were at some point thinking about making him nonwhite is something of a cold comfort.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."I have to admit something: The American Ninja movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. Yes, I know they are stupid. Yes, I know they are not that well made. And yes, I am very well aware of some of the more problematic aspects of them...but damn are they fun to watch (and I am usually not into action movies at all). And seeing Danny Rand on this promo picture with this blond guy jumping through the door, with all the knocked out people behind him, I just became all nostalgic. I immediately wondered if they also attacked him conveniently one by one like they did in those movies....I am now ridiculously excited for this show, simply because the marketing accidentally tapped into that feeling.

Honestly, I just want to see something really fun, something that doesn't take itself too seriously, something like...Ninja the Mission Force.
I'm hoping Iron Fist will be a bit lighter-hearted than DD, JJ, or LC. It would make an interesting contrast.
And considering it's a tale about a dude who got chi powers by hugging a dragon, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm just getting more and more curious how they'll try and combine three rather intense shows like DD, JJ and LC with something like IF, which seems comparatively light on its feet. Defenders has the potential to be either crazily amazing or a horrifying cacophony of misplayed notes.
I feel like I got
'd.

Every team needs The Heart. Maybe this will be Danny's role. He's the member who keeps everyone else sane and functional.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

I remember Feige saying way back that the movie would be a geopolitical thriller, and Boseman said it would be grittier (I guess than the general MCU tone?). I wouldn't be too surprised if the plot is some adaptation of elements of Priest's run. Remains to be seen where the humour comes in (my main guess would actually be Martin Freeman, though Daniel Kaluuya does comic relief rather well).
