Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I always hated the Karen/Matt pairing and I actually feel that she is way, way better off far away from him because she his chemistry with more or less everyone BUT him. Hell, I even enjoyed her interaction with Grotto more...and Karen is a character I appreciate but not particularly like anyway. But at least it is kind of funny to watch her either surprise people with her persistence or make them kind of aggravated by it. Matt is way too understanding and he is never surprised by anything she does, so the interaction between them is very boring and forced.
Anyway, as it stands, I consider DD the weakest of the three shows, and no, not because of the second season (since I really don't see that much of a quality difference between the two seasons...the second one ends way weaker but it also starts way stronger), but because DD lacks the subtext Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have, plus, I like the attitude of Jessica and Luke way better than Matt the Martyred.
I would love to the see the recreation between this "normal" martial artist when she sees Daniel punch through walls not because he isn't another Jessica or Luke but he trained that through martial artist.
Also her general eastern martial arts root gives us a different variety than the acrobatic boxing eskrima styled Daredevil. She has a bo staff. Iron Fist will be more hnmmm. Kung Fu/Karate flic

I simply want a good show with a compelling main character to round up the Defenders...I have no idea how Iron Fist is usually in the Comics, but I hope they go for someone a little bit more optimistic than the other three. They need someone more upbeat to counterbalance broody Daredevil, stoic Luke Cage and sarcastic Jessica Jones. I don't want the Defender to be all doom and gloom.
Yay, we get a thief, a murderer, and only one woman to represent us Latinos.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?He was the fifth biggest character in Ant Man, and had some of the best scenes and most quotable lines. I'd say he's big, he's just not in a bunch of movies.
There are currently six Latino Characters in the MCU (not counting Sitwell, since he is pretty much dead): Joey Gutierrez (Mexican, who also happens to be gay), Jojo (Columbian), Ghostrider and his brother (who is also a disabled character), Lois (Mexican-American, I guess) and Claire. Of those six, three have Superpowers. But there is only one who is part of the movies and he has no powers at all. I would say of them all, Claire has currently the biggest role, she is practically the Nick Fury of the Defenders Verse.
Just to provide the full picture....
And being the "fifth most important" character in a movie is not necessarily a small role, it really depends on the movie. See Got G where you need five characters just for the hero team, and I dare anyone to pick if Drax, Rocket or Groot is more important (the leads are naturally Peter and Gamora). In Civil war the fifth Character would be...let's see...Tony, Steve, Bucky, Black Widow....I guess either Zemo, Falcon or Black Panther.....

Yeah but Civil War has an Ensemble Cast, like Avengers.
The fifth more important character in Iron Man, like, Ho Yinsen? And in Thor it's probably Selvig. Neither are very prominent, and Luis is like them, in that he is firmly secondary to the plot.
Luis is a great character and a lot of fun, but he absolutely should not be carrying the complete weight of Hispanic representation. As noted, there are problematic elements to him and he's only a secondary character.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

Mainly because I'm worried that if that did happen, they'd do it wrong. Incredibly wrong.
