Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm annoyed at the lack of representation as well. I still want my lead Latino actor, and so far all I've gotten is Luis and Robbie Reyes.
At the same time, no matter how much I get angry over it, I still wanna watch them for the entertainment aspect.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Yeah, and he's on a TV series that Marvel seems to not care as much about as their Netflix shows. I want a lead in the movies. Male or female, I don't give a shit, but for the love of god give me a Latino lead. I'll even take Luis starring in his own movie where it's just ninety minutes of him talking.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I've actually been watching Agents of SHIELD more than the Netflix shows (mostly because I keep forgetting to check out the Netflix shows), and with what they're doing right now, I actually like how they've incorporated Ghost Rider. Still makes me annoyed that there's no Latino movie leads, though. Give me friggin' America Chavez or something.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I would like a latino lead in the movies myself but I also especially want one as part of the Darker and Edgier Netflix-verse Marvel has been cultivating and Robbie would have been perfect as part of that.
I might still check him out on Agents of SHIELD though.

Agents of SHIELD is dark in that Buffy the Vampire Slayer way, where the main cast is deceptively light and fluffy, but the subject matter can be downright brutal. It doesn't always work for AOS, given that this is supposed to be a secret agency and not just a tight-knit circle of friends, but when it's good, it's very good.
Maybe Ghost Rider will get spun off? Hope so.

I am interested in if Qi, an energy source, becomes visible. So far Madame Gao used it. I do not need a bunch of scenes to confirm how this elder sent Daredevil flying back on his ass was because of Qi. I hope there's less exposition around explaining the energy.
Also what if Daniel has his own marital art moves like in the comics? Ram’s Head Punch, Dragon Stamp Kick, and Defensive Cat Stance. Fun fact. Penciller Larry Hama practiced marital arts, while the original penciller, Gill Kane, in love with gymnastic and martial arts, aimed for Eastern action cinema.
I guess I am a little wrong about what I said on the last page. Roy Thomas clearly was inspired by Chinese mythology because K-un Lun is the closet thing Marvel has to Chinese Heaven. That and the action is as far as cultural appropriation goes lol.
Another fun fact. Daniel's earliest stories were only told in second person. It wasn't until he took over the Rand Meachem business and called himself New York's staple Iron Fist his story's point of view stepped up to third person. Not even really the stories themselves but his thoughts. Meanwhile, the exotic strangeness of the Heavenly Cities were far more fleshed out and those who lived there.

What I've heard of DD season 2 doesn't inspire much confidence in me that this will be a sensitive portrayal of asian race relations. The fact that Danny is still white is kind of a big red flag in and of itself.
I'm all for faithful and loving adaptations of beloved characters, but sometimes when an old aspect of a character isn't working anymore you have to change it.
Marvel's Netflix series have honestly been pretty inconsistent about this.
On one hand, we have Jessica Jones which, flawed as it was, still had a pretty powerful metanarrative and commentary on rape culture in a way that very few works have done. Luke Cage I have not finished yet, but everything I've been hearing and seeing from reactions indicate that it explores black american culture in a very genuine way, giving a perspective that is sorely lacking in mainstream media.
...but then we have Daredevil, and now Iron Fist. It might be a little early to judge Iron Fist on the whole since the show isn't out yet, but it is definitely true that the casting does not inspire confidence.
...it's just what comes afterwards that people are worried about.
