Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Wakandan anti-metal is a thing that T'Challa and multiple other characters made use of in the Priest comics, so it might be an extrapolation of that.
Seems like Hugo Weaving looks back more fondly on the Red Skull now
. Meaning if they decide to call him back now, such as for an encore in Infinity War he might take them up on it.
Also belated congrats on our 2500-pageversary I guess.

Well, he did get shot into space by the Tesseract, right? So I have to wonder if that wasn't part of the plan all along.
Whether or not Hugo Weaving was in on the plan or wants to come back, I guess that remains to be seen.

From what I understand Hugo Weaving's only major complaint on the role was how makeup intensive it was.
I think it would be well worth switching to a digital mo-cap skull if that's what it takes to get Hugo Weaving back without having to legally bully him into doing it. Especially with today's VFX technology.
Extensive makeup seems to be something very few actors actually like doing.

He said in an interview once that it was somewhat freeing to play a villain as scenery-devouringly over-the-top capital-e *Evil* as the Red Skull. I meant that it's just he's been laying low as an actor for the past couple years, since the last LOTR movie. Though I suppose MCU money and a paycheque's as good a reason as any. It probably wouldn't be a huge part, but I hope he does come back in some capacity.
Aw, I was just about to post this.
Well whatever.
Was there ever a time when Red Skull was in cahoots with Thanos? The only time I can remember was in the season 1 finale of Avengers Assemble.
Come to think of it, if Red Skull does end up appearing, what are the odds that he'll have a pissing match with Loki?
In cahoots? I wouldn't put it past comics, but it's almost certainly rare if ever. The Red Skull is so far beneath Thanos it's not even funny. It's one of those "Joker teams up with Zod!" kind of ideas where, with the massive difference in scope, powerset, motive, etc. it's really hard to justify the one ever giving the other the time of day.
Like, if the Red Skull was to return somehow in Infinity War despite being teleported to god-knows-where and then 70 years passing in the interim, it's extremely doubtful he would be, like, a colleague and co-conspirator of Thanos. He'd be a patsy at best. A minion.
And he doesn't really have a skillset that would make for a valuable minion.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.He can fight but I'm sure a ton of other characters already have that going for him.
The only way I could see it really happening is if Infinity War involves some Legion of Doom-style team fighting the Avengers at some point.
Rocket and a big arsenal on a planet of space Nazis would be the greatest thing in the history of cinema. I guess you could chuck the other Guardians in there also but lets not get greedy.

All Marvel movies could use 200 percent more Nazi-killing. Only TWS and Age of Ultron sated my desire for this recently, and it was only the opening scene for the latter.
and
You have no idea how badly I want that to be the case.
Always made sense to me. Kinda looking forward to them squabbling over who gets Black Panther (probably neither, kind of imagine he'd stay neutral), Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel, or if this develops into a wedge between Ant-Man and Wasp.

That's why they had to change Captain Marvel's origin to be less like Green Lantern's.
Black Panther is MCU Green Lantern.
