Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Pretty sure it's just a mask. Doubtful it's in reference to any particular African tradition really.
Civil War gave Wakanda a fairly neutral feel so far, but I'm a little nervous that the African aspects of the film will be very West in nature, like the languages, city names, and religious aspects. Even though the country is explicitly located in East Africa near Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania which aren't quite the same. It's somewhat understandable since most African Americans are descended from West Africa and there's a tendency for even Afrocentric media to engage in the Africa Is a Country aspect of Bulungi, but it's a peeve of mine.

It'll be hard to get that in the movie but it was a real fuck yeah moment.

Heart-shaped herb which is basically the same thing as super serum, except less complicated to make, and more narrow in its application. If you use it and you're not of royal blood you die, as Killmonger found out the hard way. T'Challa's suit also has vibranium weave in his suit which grants him extra abilities like stronger defense and ability to run up walls for example.

Yeah I don't think it represents anything. That was just the redesign they gave Mephisto in the 90's.
As for the heart shaped herb I'm pretty sure it's explicitly natural, but actually becoming the Black Panther involves being blessed by their Panther god. I'd be interested to see if they drop the latter aspect.

It's a shame we couldn't get Johnny or Danny (though the former had his time....not good times, but still), but yeah, Robbie seemed pretty cool.
Which is fucking ironic considering the flaming head and all.
Oh fuck yeah. When his face just burned away into the flaming skull, now that was awesome. And yes, it did look so much better in motion than it did in the still shot. Although that must be some expensive CGI — they're probably going to save the actual flaming skull shots for once or twice an episode and the rest of the time go with the flaming eyes instead.
Speaking of voting, we might see the Hulk sans pants in the next movie...
That is not a sentence I ever thought I'd say.
Sweet Christ, I looked at the comments. Why do I do this to myself, the comments of anything even tangentially related to social issues will inevitably end up like a Necronomicon excerpt.
Good to see Don Cheadle in there - he is the guy who once told Trump to go die in a grease fire, after all.
Who knows. If America won't listen to reason or logic or common decency, maybe they'll listen to That Guy What Was Once In That Movie They Liked. I am unfortunately not joking when I say that.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."It seems that T'Challa's ring has special power.

Looks like a mask, but I'm not familiar enough with (any) African mythology to tell you of who. A loose equivalent to Satan, maybe?
