Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That's basically just an ultra condensed version of the latest trailer, isn't it? You can even hear a clear cut in the soundtrack.
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveBetter yet, get her a cameo or a supporting role in Spider-Man: Homecoming
It's such a goofy sounding name I'm amazed it managed to avoid causing mass Narm.
I've got an idea for how Iron Man will be included in Spider-Man: Homecoming. At some point in the movie, Peter decides to go to Tony Stark for help, either for help fighting the villain, or just looking to see if he can get some kind of corporate backing for his superheroics. However, Tony didn't actually leave Peter any way to get in touch with him back in Civil War, so the only way for him to reach Tony is to show up at Stark Industries, where he is promptly and forcibly expelled by the overzealous security of Happy Hogan.
No, but he arguably lengthened its conflict out by abandoning Lincoln's plans for Reconstruction and being a huge racist.
And allegedly he peed on a White House rug
, but I've yet to find a source for this.
Thank goodness Bucky didn't take after him.
By today's standards, yes, but still less racist than Johnson.
Interestingly, had Johnson been fully impeached as President, his successor would've been Benjamin Wade
, who was more progressive than Lincoln, having criticized his slowness in allowing black men to enlist and also supported women's suffrage.
Anyway, that was the history lesson of the day. Now, to the MCU.

Meanwhile, Lincoln in the Marvel Universe...
◊
History lessons in comic book universes must be a blast - even without getting into crazy stuff like people from the present or future going into the past. WW 2 especially.

Retcons mainly affect the personal lives of superheroes
Not sure how much that would affect history books although surely superheroes in general would warrant a chapter
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOne of the things that Marvel's exciting me about is how they're branching out into adapting their heroes with very different powers, given how rare that has been in superhero movies. Scarlet Witch's psychic powers are nothing new to the audience, but they're new for the universe, and after that they started going full force with it - Ant-Man successfully brought shrinking to the table, Dr. Strange is going all out with the strangeness of magic, and while Spider-Man is rather standard he's always been an offbeat take on traditional powers (especially his villains, though admittedly the villains in Homecoming aren't that breakout powers-wise). You could even consider Falcon like that, given how heroes that use tech are generally expected to look like Batman - playing the wings/flight gimmick the the hilt is an odd but awesome turn.
I really want to see that, a world of superheroes with characters with very different abilities and powers. I want the lineup for Infinity War to have a shot of all the heroes, and many of them are all over the place, with many people there who are nothing like one another.
They should just go down the whole list.
Now that I think about it, does any superhero film-verse currently have a full-shapeshifter (rather than a "master of disguise" type like Mystique)?
Though I guess Marvel's best shapeshifter is Mr. Fantastic...

At this point, so many people are clamoring for Ms. Marvel that the MCU almost has to introduce her at some point (assuming they don't get cowed by fear of controversy, but I'll try to put my cynicism aside for the moment). The only question is when. My answer would be "immediately after Carol. Like, immediately. By then we will have waited more than long enough."
Hell, why even wait - you could introduce her in the same movie. No need to give her her powers yet - just have her appear as a teaser. Marvel may already be doing something similar with Cindy Moon in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."

So Rand's beard is permanent? I was kinda hoping he'd shave it off after returning to Western civilization.
Between this and Doctor Strange, I get far too invested in the facial hair of MCU characters.
