Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up]Strange getting his ass kicked in Infinity War should be fun.

Ragnarok set photos. Looks like New York.

That newspaper headline though. "God of Thunder strikes it up with Lady Justice"?

[up] I didn't see that as a headline. These were the headlines I saw:

"Hammer Attack"

"Has Thor Returned?"

"Time Square Murder"

"[Something] Loki Spotted"

The paper is called Lady Liberty News; that probably caused the confusion. Also the Loki headline says 'Villain Loki Spotted'

I'm still going to imagine a drunken Thor hitting on The statue of Liberty.

You can't stop me from doing it.

Aww, Thor in casual clothes is adorable. Though I'm shocked he's not also wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses. Also Loki looks way too much like a skinnier younger Tommy Wiseau for my comfort.

If they have Loki casualling around in New York, they need to somehow recreate this. Even if Spider-Man himself being there is highly unlikely. Use Darcy or something.

@Alley Oop: Loki looks like Lord Voldemort wearing a suit in Order of the Phoenix but with hair.

And I'm now thinking this might be early on in the film since Thor still has long hair here.

They already got Pudi, Rash, and Glover, now I'm hoping for Ken Jeong to show up grin

Or you could get Gillian Jacobs or Alison Brie in there.

[up][up] Ken Jeong can play a wacky colleague of Strange's.

Or a ttally insane magic student.

Concept art for Guardians Vol. 2

Someone jokingly pointed out the cameo could just be Brie Larson as Carol Danvers or whoever Donald Glover is playing in Homecoming, since they were both on Community.

[up]I really hope that fight with the space monster is a cold-open. It looks like it'd work perfectly as a fun one-off before the main plot kicks in.

Gamora and Rocket are cyborgs and Groot is a weird space tree. Don't know if Drax has an excuse.

I see ground in the corner. That place might have an atmosphere.

I really want to see Gillian Jacobs in a superhero movie. With superpowers, preferably.

Okay, can I get a consensus on what color Loki's eyes are? I've seen them look blue and green, and in these latest pics they look grey. Am I just crazy? Or are the filmmakers screwing with us in a meta way, since Loki is a shapeshifter (and therefore doesn't technically have a set eye color, default appearance be damned)?

If I recall correctly, his eyes were blue in The Avengers, which is commonly interpreted as a subtle hint that he was being influenced by the scepter (and the Infinity Gem inside)?
