Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Michael Pena is returning for Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Awesome. Hopefully they don't run the joke into the ground.

Also the GOTG have been confirmed for IW, but more interestingly Vin Diesel seems to be a part of it too. Either confirmation that he's also going to be voicing Baby Groot or that full-sized Groot returns in some fashion by that time.

[up] Now I feel like Scott's con man storyline has served its purpose because he has no logical reason to stick with his old crew. I'd rather they focus on Janet's rescue and Hope becoming the Wasp.

[up][up]I'm sure they wouldn't bench their Do-Anything Treant for the whole movie, would they? Growing back to full size wouldn't even be the most impressive thing Groot's done so far, what with rising from the dead from little more than a twig.

[up]Can't pick your friends, right? And Michael Pena was great in that movie, happy to have him back.

Most likely Pym gave the "wombats" proper jobs working at Pym Tech.

I kind of hope Groot Jr serves a different purpose in the team than Groot Sr did. Being small and nimble, as opposed to huge and lumbering.

I don't know about full size but I'm guessing Groot will start out around Rocket's height and grow to the size of an adult human over the course of the movie.

I'm really curious what hair they're going to go with. Carol's always suffered from Depending on the Artist so they have a wealth to choose from. The mask might be less likely due to Marquee Alter Ego reasons.

Now I feel like Scott's con man storyline has served its purpose because he has no logical reason to stick with his old crew.

Every master of the heist needs a crew - even if that thief happens to be doing that less-than-legal stuff on the side of the angels. Especially if they don't have a ubiquitous and unendingly powerful corporation backing their every move. And also given that after Civil War Scott's a fugitive again - even moreso than before.

The end of the movie gives the impression that they fill that niche - Luis especially feels like he's Scott's "agent" of sorts, scouting out odd jobs and prime offers. I don't know why they wouldn't show up again.

I do hope Infinity War focuses on a team-up between a team of Lawful Good Avengers led by Tony and a team of Chaotic Good Avengers led by Steve.

[up]Oh hell yes! But what about a Neutral Good team led by Doctor Strange?

Though I was impressed with how much time Scott spends in the mask in both Ant-Man and Civil War.

So, one of the cast members in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tiffany Espensen, might be playing Silk/Cindy Moon. The reasoning behind this is that Tiffany Espensen is Asian American and her character's name is Cindy.

That'd be neat but I'm skeptical since the source was a "leaked" cast list. Those are incredibly easy to fabricate.

I thought Silk was Peter's daughter from the future.

I don't think so. IIRC more along the lines of Jessica Jones in terms of forgotten friend/acquaintance.

Hope not since they've knocked boots (webs?).

That's Spider-Girl/May Parker. Silk is Cindy Moon who was kind of a weird Mary Sue character when she was first introduced but now that she's got her own solo she's a more well-rounded and sympathetic character with a design that isn't Fetish Retardant anymore.

Yeah, her introduction was pretty notoriously awful, but after she got her own vastly improved solo title, she's been Rescued from the Scrappy Heap in the eyes of many.

If that story is true, then cool. I don't buy it at this point, partly because of the unreliability of many of these early leaks, and partly because the character's name is still mud with a lot of people, but yeah - if it's true, cool.

If Cindy is in the film, I would expect it to be little more than an Easter egg for comics fans. Like "ooh, guess who this character is? Does her nametag say Cindy? I think it does!" Basically just setting her up for potential future developments.

Hi-Res stills from the second Dr. Strange trailer. Forget if this was posted already. Also whether we already knew or not that the Eye of Agamotto was going to be green, which lends even more credence to the idea that it's probably going to be the Time Stone.

[up]"One does not require the Eye of Agamotto to perceive this outcome."

Maybe most of us didn't perceive it being green as Beastman, but it could still be good.
