Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Other interesting stuff: between Ned Leeds and Betty Brant, it's looking likely that the Bugle will have a decent presence in the film.
Woodbine is credited as "Shocker #2." Maybe Shocker is part of a gang of people who use his tech or something? Either that or he's played by different actors when in and out of the suit. Either way, if they do what I'm thinking and have Shocker be the Rhino/Scarecrow/Batroc of the movie, I'll be very happy.
Also Sally: Sally Avril, maybe? Every character around her placement seems to be original, so she might just end up being a case of Names The Same.

It just hit me that funnily enough Umberto Gonzalez was also the same guy responsible for claiming that Asa Butterfield was definitely playing Spider-Man a week or two before the official announcement of his casting. and we all know how that turned out
.
I'm kinda curious about Martin Starr's character actually. The fact that Choi's listed as Principle Morita means they're invoking continuity with the other MCU films and Starr's character went unnamed (the novelization called him Amadeus Cho but I don't think anyone who's not a troll will argue that's actually canon) so they might mention that he's a Culver alum or something.

Martin Starr is listed as "Mr. Harrington" and Roger Harrington
was actually the name of one of the principals of Midtown High.
I've seen Vin Diesel on casting lists for Got G 2, but I don't know how official those were. But I don't see why not?
Personally I would find it pretty funny to have Twig-Groot still somehow have the same deep gravelly voice as the massive fully grown version. Or possibly he doesn't actually speak at all until he reaches a certain age/size.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."
For one, I am one of the few people who were disappointed by the original Spider-man trilogy (the train scene is literally the only thing I like), and two, even those who did like those movies tended to be unhappy about this version of Mary Jane. I think we all want to see the fierce red-head which turns heads left and right eventually...but at a point at which it isn't creepy to droll over her!
They already said Zendaya's character would just be a female character named Michelle
, and than Liz Allan was going to be the main love interest. No indication that this "Michelle" would be a love interest too. If she is indeed MJ, it would mean they're taking the slow-burn approach with the two's relationship. Which would not be a bad idea actually.
Funny thing is, the report that I read awhile back seemed to indicate that Zendaya would have a relatively small presence in Homecoming, but that she'd be "weaved" in and out throughout the film and her role would expand in future films. Which could very well point to her being MJ as well. And given the changes that they've already made, the whole "it's too early" thing is kind of irrelevant as far as the MCU is concerned.
I think that it's more likely than not that she is MJ, and I've felt that for awhile for several reasons. Also BTW, I've seen pictures of her with red hair and she pulls it off pretty well imo.
I don't care if she's Mary Jane or not (though I don't expect them to have her hair be red in that case which I can't say I'm a fan of but it's whatever) but I really don't want them to take the "surprise reveal" approach because that just screams of patting themselves on the back. It's like they're saying "I bet you didn't expect this to be MJ! See how progressive we're being!?" If she's playing her then just come out and say it.

This song needs more love.
If they are going with the surprise route, I hope it is in the same way as how MJ debuted in the comics as a sort of reverse catfish rather than what you described.
But that would mean not revealing who her actress is at all to begin with or place a bunch of question marks by the actress name cause that would be a major Captain Obvious Reveal right there.
Hey if they could do Civil War without making it a Dork Age and having Tony be an evil little jackboot then I'm sure they could do Carlie Cooper without making her completely suck.

The only hope I have is that Mary Jane won't be in this movie at all. It is simply too early for her to turn up. And with Liz and Betty already on the casting list, there is really no need to add another potential love interest.
