Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If it wasn't for the possible One-Steve Limit, I could see Matt Damon playing Crossfire in a future Ant-Man movie.
Or maybe a Spider-Man villain, though I assume Matt would be one of those folks who always wants their face visible and few of Spider-Man's villains are like that.
I admit, I have developed a big dislike towards most outlets focussing on Superhero news, but especially comicbookmovie.com and uproxx. They take the most harmless remark and build a big article around it (like "how will x influence y"...the answer is usually not at all). And I really don't see the point of just linking to an article if you can summon out what it is about in once sentence. It just helps out this kind of questionable "news".
I want to see Matt Damon play the Leader. The idea of Matt Damon stumbling around with an oversized lumpen prosthetic head is just great. To me. For some reason.
And, while I'm speculating about things that will never happen, I'd also like to see a Black Widow/Hulk movie (with William Hurt as General Ross, and whoever they can get as Betsy Ross) that riffs on World War Hulk and the Maestro, with a cameo by Robert Downey Jr so we have an excuse to pull at the strings left dangling by his visions of a dark future... Such as the one that might see the rise of the Maestro.
I'd also like to see Hawkeye, Zemo, and Ant-Man in a Thunderbolts movie— not necessarily an official Thunderbolts-titled movie, but a spiritual adaptation. Ghost, for example, the only place his industrial saboteur schtick works better than Ant-Man is Iron Man, and that's not happening. So a darker take on the Avengers (without being Dark Avengers), maybe based on the Thunderbolts' original run where we see a bunch of villains who pretend to be heroes only to discover they actually really like it.
Maybe jam it together with that first idea— yes, I know Ross was in charge of the Thunderbolts at one point, no, I don't want this to be a Red Hulk adaptation in any way— but we could get to see flashbacks of how Hawkeye and Black Widow first met onscreen, possibly Tony having to jettison the first real friend he's made in years into space (since MCU Tony and Bruce are buddies in a way they weren't in the comics)...
Anyway. Matt Damon as the Leader.

Well, not really. ![]()
Nick Spencer's Ant-Man has an arc of Cross being Back from the Dead and his son being involved with Avenging the Villain along with Crossfire. And Earths Mightiest Heroes used an Adaptational Badass Crossfire in Scott's origin story. So I could see them having Crossfire and have him tangentially mention he's related to the guy Scott killed in the first movie.
Okay? I'm sorry I'm just not getting the objection. I doubt anyone gives a shit about two characters who are biologically related having the same last name. You're overthinking this, a little.
I think it's been said that Marvel can actually use Kang although Rama Tut is probably off limits. And do we really need more white Egyptians?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYou know, it's too bad that the MCU already had Ultron as an Evil Tony Stark because it would have been kind of cool to have Downey Jr. voicing an (always masked) Kang and having an ambiguity of whether he was a future version of Tony.
Edit- Alternatively/also, it would be cool for the MCU to do one of those plots about someone destined to be evil and discussing whether it can be avoided (please don't bring in Civil War II though).
Like I know this is being done with Apocalypse in the comics, whose obviously off limits, but I think it's also been done with Victor Mancha, right? You could probably do a composite wherein Kang is a future version of him and also bring in the Ultron element.

LIVE ACTION RUNAWAYS.
ON HULU.
From Josh Schwartz (The OC, Gossip Girl, Chuck) and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, Astronaut Wives Club).
If it's as good as Chuck was, THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.

You know, since Ben Affleck is playing Batman, I thought it would be delightfully ironic if Matt Damon showed up in the MCU, maybe as Cletus Cassidy.
