Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I'm still waiting for more news on that Cloak & Dagger show that Freeform (not a huge fan of that name-change BTW) is working on.

And I am still hoping for Damage Control....

Otherwise I think it will be a slow weekend for Marvel news until the Suicide Squad hype has died down a little bit...I guess they will drop something substantial in the middle of next week to get the attention back to them and Doctor Strange.

So Kismet being there but the Soul Stone not being involved in any way makes me curious what they're planning with Adam Warlock, if they adapt him.
Now that I think about it, they could pull an adaptation twist by having Kismet pull a Heel–Face Turn at the end and join the team, making her for all intents and purposes, the MCU incarnation of Adam Warlock.

Isn't Vision basically MCU Adam Warlock.

So, Jeph Loeb and Simone Missick have expressed their interest in a Misty Knight spin-off series.

She's this Asian martial artist who is supposed to be in Iron Fist.

I'd love to see it, naturally. But even putting aside the obvious hurdles in the way of that happening, are they really big enough names to sell a TV series?

Not at the moment, but it's possible. They're giving the Punisher his spinoff after audiences loved him in Daredevil, it wouldn't surprise me if they decide to do the same with Misty Knight if audiences love her in Luke Cage.

Colleen Wing is usually a supporting character in Iron Fist who was taught in the ways of the samurai. She and Misty became friends and ran a business called Knightwing Restorations, Inc and then another version of Heroes for Hire.

In the Netflix show, she will be played by Jessica Henwick.

Well, I wouldn't bet on it, but fingers crossed. I wouldn't have expected Luke or Jessica to get their own shows either, so who knows.

Well, the title sounds cool, and if the characters in itself are popular...why not.

It's not like anyone really knew who Jessica Jones is either before the show aired. Slap the Marvel name on it and people will be interested.

My main concern is that with so many shows is that they really need to up their production schedule if they want to add a Misty Knight show on top of what they are already doing 6 shows. The way things are going it'll be 2-3 years between seasons, which is a little much.

One way around that would be to merge Luke Cage and Iron Fist into a single "Heroes for Hire" series. Then do a Daughters of the Dragon series starring Misty Knight and Coleen Wing.

This approach would have several advantages:

1. It wouldn't increase the total number of shows they are producing

2. It would allow us to have a series where Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up with the focus on them teaming up outside the context of the Defenders.

3. It would give us a second female-led Netflix series, and one that's very different from Jessica Jones.

4. There wouldn't be any need to cut any members of Luke Cage or Iron Fist's supporting cast. Since characters beyond Misty Knight and Coleen Wing could shift over to the Daughters of the Dragon series as needed.

Obviously we need to wait until Luke Cage and Iron Fist come out to see if people actually like these particular incarnations of Misty Knight and Coleen Wing, but I never said I wasn't getting way ahead of myself.

She was also briefly roommates with Jean Grey. And she dated Cyclops during a time he thought the former was dead....before Jean actually died and came back....or became known for dying and coming back.

Honestly, I prefer a series of Moon Knight.
