Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Speaking of series and movies

For a second I thought that Lorelei would be The Dragon of Loki, but I think it will never happen.

But even I have the hope that she will be the Big Bad / Arc Villain of the first half of the fifth season of Agents of Shield. (style tie-in)

No, no more Red Skies Crossovers. Just let Agents tell its own tale for the 4th season, without making any more nods to films it doesn't really have anything to do with.

@comic I like how they made Dr. Strange tan despite Benefrank Tomatopatch being lily-white.

My actual point still stands. No more cute tie-ins.

I could see Lorelei coming back to the show, but I can't imagine she'll have any part to play in the movie.

[up]To be fair, the street level heroes have nothing to do against someone who is basically a physical god and that does not stop people want to see them in the Infinity War.

Lorelei as an ally of Loki, has more sense than Badass Normal Daredevil against Galactic Conqueror Thanos.

It's not that Lorelei is weak, it's that I cannot see any scenario where the movie division would allow the TV division to force them to use a character.

There is no way they introduced her in the TV show with the assumption that the next movie would have to use her.

to be honest I despise this particular episode so much that I don't want it to be referenced ever again.

[up]Anyway be exiled from continuity is not so bad.

Another thing I would have liked to see, is the leader as an Arc Villain/ Big Bad of the series, but neither will happen.

Why does he have a fin now?

I assume it's to make him look a little more like his original comics counterpart. Now they just need to put him in Stripperiffic gear.

[up][up]Because they're only now trying to make him look more like Comic!Yondu, who is such a completely different character from the movie version that I'm surprised they even bothered.

Is there gonna be an in-universe reason for it?

Guys, this isn't really new. He's always had a conspicuous red techno-bit jutting out from the top of his head. The fin is just building on his head-tech.

Because it's cool. Fins are cool now.

From what I've heard, it's some kind of control device for his arrows, and an early plot in the film focuses on its retrieval.

I don't know what difference the final will make in that department, though, since his whistling did the job just fine in the first movie.

I was always a combination of the thing on his head and the whistling. Didn't you notice how it brightened up every time he used the arrow?

Huh. Come to think of it, I do remember that. But I still don't see how the new fin will improve it any, since we've seen him easily kill a whole squadron of Ronan's goons in one shot without it.

So how much better does the fin make him? Can he snipe baddies from an adjacent planet? Does it let him control the arrows telepathically without the need for whistling?

It might let him do other, non-arrow things. The point is, it's an upgrade of some kind to the implant he already has.

You know, when they first announced the show, I speculated that Most Wanted would struggle on account of the fact that Bobbi and Hunter are, individually, great characters with a lot of fun interactions but are at their most boring and unimpressive whenever they're forced to interact with each other.

But I thought it would at least get off the ground before sinking.

I didn't think it'd get far enough to get of the ground, the idea never really felt strong enough for its own series and Morse and Hunter worked best as part of the team. The characters they don't seem to have much in terms of leading chops on their own.
