Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

eah, Daredevil Season 2 started around St. Patrick's Day 2016 (Hence the Irish mob sitting around eating corned beef and potatoes), but it ended in Winter of 2016-17.
St Patrick's Day is on March 17 and Daredevil Season 2 was released on March 18, 2016, which means that it does start around the same time as it was released.

Daredevil season 1 was released in 2015, but it was set in summer 2014, Jessica Jones was released in late 2015, but it was set in early 2015 (February most likely), and Daredevil season 2 was released in 2016, but was set in summer to Christmas 2015.
JJ I can see set in Winter 2015, but why couldn't DD S1 be set in early 2015 before Age of Ultron and DD S2 set in April-Winter 2016?

[up] Because Jessica Jones being set in January or February 2015 is pretty much non-negotiable. The day Reva died is not only shown on the props, it is actually mentioned in the show, as it how much time has passed (Killgrave got Jessica one and a half year ago and Reva died one year ago). Plus, the show starts with people packed into winter clothing (it is actually a plot point when Jessica searches for Killgrave), but later on they are dressed for spring time.

Daredevil is set at least two years after "the incident" (which definitely happened in 2012)and since we know it has to happen before Jessica Jones, it only can be set in 2014, and season two is set after Jessica Jones because Claire is still being punished for helping Luke Cage. It stretches over quite a time span overall, though, unlike the first season, which happens within one month more or less.

I kind of wonder how they will proceed with Luke Cage series given that Reva's killer was switched from a rival gang to Jessica. That storyline will probably be replaced or dropped.

Technically, Jessica wasn't the murderer.

She was the murder weapon. Kilgrave killed Reva, using Jessica as a proxy.

Some photos of the Asgard set that's being built.

Sounds like there is some drama between the crews from Australia and New Zealand.

So Kismet being there but the Soul Stone not being involved in any way makes me curious what they're planning with Adam Warlock, if they adapt him.

I would love to see a blooper reel that was just a montage of Renner's heart attacks.

It makes sense, too, considering Joss said that he wrote this whole entire backstory for Hawkeye, but had to cut all of it for time.

Those posts were two and five hours apart. It's normal for people to prefer to bump the thread at that point rather than edit an old post.

They'll probably go with his most basic form and abilities (cosmic absorption, enhanced physicals, etc.) he had before he got the stone. Either that and/or his "quantum mage" phase.

I wonder just how big his part is on this film is. Guessing based on this he's going to be in Hulk form most of the time.

[up] Whenever Marvel does a story where Hulk basically takes over 24x7 I get sad.

Mark Ruffalo does the motion capture for Hulk as well, so regardless of how long the Banner parts are, he'd also have the Hulk parts to film.

I wasn't responding to you, though. I was responding to Alley Oop wondering if his part is smaller because Banner's full-Hulk on this, which isn't the case because he also does the mocap for Hulk, se has to act him either way.

For the record I also dislike when the Hulk is fully in control of Banner. I find the Hulk in general a pretty boring character.
