Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Iron Fist trailer's underwhelming, but that's to be expected.

So every Netflix series thus far has used a car door in an improper way; Kingpin smooshed Anatoly's head in one, Jessica ripped one off to use as a shield, and now Luke Cage uses one to cocoon some hapless goon. No car door in the Iron Fist trailer but who knows what the series proper will hold.

[up] I DEMAND a Misty Knight / Colleen Wing Heroes For Hire miniseries where Misty uses a car door to reinforce her metal arms when it was shot during combat.

There ought to be a scene where all four of them are in a car, arrive at a place where some bad guys are, and each of the just casually rips off the door as they exit and jump into the fray.

One thing after another...I guess some Agents of Shield stuff is next, and then we'll get to the movies.

Now, I expect a new Doctor Strange Trailer, a first teased for Got G Vol 2 and an announcement concerning the Captain Marvel casting and director.

BTW, I don't know who does the marketing for the Marvel Netflix show, but whoever it is, awesome work! There is an artistic element to it I really appreciate. I especially love the ripping of the paper in the Defenders one.

I'm not seeing Daredevil ripping a car door off as a shield anytime soon. The other three should be good, though.

My favorite part of the trailer is that Luke's hoodie had bullet holes in it after cocooning the guy with the car door. It didn't actually stop the bullets fired at him.

Hollywood doesn't have a good relationship with ballistic physics, so seeing some acknowledgement that yes, bullets can penetrate things like car doors is appreciated.

Yes the weird belief that anything metal can stop a bullet regardless of what's actually made of.

It goes a bit deeper than that. Bulletproof Human Shield is a thing after all.

Yeah, I love that detail, too. Just because Luke Cage's skin is bulletproof, it doesn't mean that his skin is. And the Metal should be a little bit useful because, well, just because a bullet can't penetrate the skin it doesn't mean that a big impact can't cause damage beneath it, as we saw in Jessica Jones. So an additional layer of protection to slow the bullets down a little bit might not be a bad idea.

I wonder if Luke learned that because of what happened in Jessica Jones, or if he learned that before hand.

If it's the latter, it's a nice Continuity Nod. He's gained a slightly better idea of his limits, so now he takes appropriate precautions.

lol, I naturally meant his clothes....

My point still stands, though.

Does anyone know when there will be which Marvel related panel? So that I know when I have to be on the look out for news....

First Jessica Jones action figure shown at Comic Con. And Punisher too.

throws money at Marvel (for Jess, not Frank. Though I do like this version of the character.)
