Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

As others noted, Spider-Man is physically stronger than either Bucky or Cap. Cap had quite a bit of trouble with him until he changed up his tactics to accommodate Spidey's superior physical ability.
Bucky never had the chance to do that. He has more experience than Cap in the world of professional espionage against mundane targets, but less experience in super-fights. Bucky's kind of a powerhouse character. He's used to dominating close-quarter brawls with the advantage of his robot arm and relies on it extensively. When Spidey not only stopped the robot arm but proceeded to grapple it out of Bucky's control, that was it. Bucky had nothing else to go on.
We see the same thing when Bucky and Cap fight Stark. Once Bucky's arm is blown off, that's it. He's done. Absent a firearm he can fall back on, he's out of the fight and the most he offers to the rest of it is a temporary distraction.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.To be fair, you could say that for a lot of people. Once one of their arms get blown off, they're suddenly far less effective.
My various fanfics.Bucky does seem pretty reliant on the arm though - if he tried the shield catch from Winter Soldier with his mundane arm he probably would have undergone some impromptu dentistry. I would say Cap is probably overall stronger but if it came to arm wrestling then metal arms wins it.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Spider-Man's Rogues Gallery is full of characters who aren't necessarily stronger than Spidey, but have interesting abilities that allow them to counter him in unique ways. Very few of his battles are settled by straightforward fistfights and proverbial arm wrestles where the strongest person wins.
I think they need to not fall into the trap of feeling they have to make his enemies as strong as possible for the sake of a big fistfight, which tends to backfire - either by turning interesting opponents boring power-wise like what happened with Whiplash (who gets a lot ofbflak for being just another guy in a bulky suit despite a promising start) or by forcing them in limited directions plotwise like what happened when Amazing 2 overbuffed Electro.
Spider-Man: Homecoming adds Tyne Daly to the cast.
...You know, I can actually see her playing a really good genderflipped J Jonah Jameson. Probably not, but she would fit really well in that role.
There seems to be a lot of people in this cast.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectProbably no more than any other movie but they seem to be announcing each and every one as it comes whereas most movies tend to make it more about the headline acts - oh, and these other guys are also in it. If I were super cynical I would suggest it's so it's clear to everyone what a diverse cast they've got.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."In a lot of action movies, especially superhero movies, there's a point I like to call the Power Event Horizon, in which a villain's power level becomes so much greater than the hero and the world around them as a whole that their plotline potential actually decreases and - among other things - they must die in the end (and stay dead) because there's no adequate way to deal with them.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 had the problem of introducing Electro as quite powerful and a match for Spidey already, and then wildly and repeatedly jacking up his power level for the rest of the move (mostly offscreen, without giving the heroes a chance to even experience that power) until not only can Spider-Man not face him without having to rely on one of those indirect last-ditch plot-driven hero schemes, but he can't really interact with the rest of the cast in as many ways as he might have been able to before. Which is even more of a problem given his characterization practically relied on interaction to work.

RE: Spider-Man: Homecoming casting: Anyone else seem to notice that aside from TH, MT, RDJ, and Zendaya, they're not specifying which actor is playing what character? I wonder if they're saving that for SDCC or whatever...
Also, is Ghost Rider coming to AOS after all? Albeit not as Johnny Blaze?

I hope this doesn't kill the potential of him having a series of his own on Netflix. ANGR would've been a perfect fit for Netflix with its discussion of topical issues such as urban violence, poverty, drugs, Parental Abandonment, and disability. Would be a waste if he shows up on AOS and none of these get explored in proper detail. Plus as a Hispanic lead main character he'd be really good for representation.

It's a little bit early to show all their cards. I doubt that they will make any big official announcement concerning Spider-man: Homecoming before next year, SDCC will be all about Doctor Strange, Luke Cage, Got G Vol 2 and Agents of Shield for sure. Also, I am ready to bet that most actors are cast for pretty minor roles. If they want to focus on Spider-man in school, he needs a lot of classmates and teacher after all. And because they already have to do a complete world-building in this regard, I also doubt that they will do anything related to the Daily Bugle aside from showing that yes, the newspaper exists in the MCU.
More new cast members for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Probably minor characters, although you never know.

He's something of a glass cannon in that he can deliver more damage than Spider-Man but he's less durable. Him being just as, if not more, intelligent as Peter makes things more dangerous.
