Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I think my favorite moment involving Sally Floyd came after Civil War when a hero, I think it was Moon Knight, saved her from some muggers without realizing who she was, then when he recognized her he told her to her face that if he'd known who she was he wouldn't have bothered saving her. Glorious take that moment for the smug little "reporter".

Moon Knight's not meant to be a upstanding guy like cap or supes. This is the guy who defeated his nemesis by carving off his face and who has multiple personalities running around his head at the best of times.

Sounds like one of those moments when the resident Hate Sink becomes a punching bag, those tend to be hit or miss for me. This one just sounds bad.

Some looks at Star-Lord's revamped costume in the second film.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it I guess. Though the Guardians aren't the type to need costume changes like the Avengers. They don't need the branding I guess.

I like Star Lord's movie costume. It looks cool, which is exactly the point.

Loki in The Avengers is crazy. Bruce says it outright. Which gives Loki in the Avengers more or less free reign to do what he wants, weather it makes sense or not. Loki in the Thor movies still suffers under internalized racism, which is a fascinating motivation for a villain.

Thank god Movie-Cap never had to bother to learn about Myspace, it was already old news when he was sawed out. Though I doubt that he has a Twitter account, either. Can you imagine him having to deal with this kind of talk?

"I love America" is under 120 characters or whatever it is. But yes, Twitter is probably the domain of Stark where he makes many witty comments that get retweeted.

[up] I a totally unreadable manner because he simply can't let go of the Caps button (I am not joking here, to read this blog is an absolute chore because of that, especially for someone who isn't a native speaker).

[up] Too much effort. If this guy wants to make his work unreadable for a cheap gimmick, I certainly won't take extra steps to read it.

I thought the Hulk gimmick was used to promote anonymity because the writer or writers are Hollywood insiders or ex-insiders that would rather not have them know who they are.

[up][up] Caps also don't help the fact he's a bit biased sometimes because it just makes the whole review seem extremely aggressive.

Film Crict Hulk takes a long time to say something very simple compared to other writing websites! By the time I read his fourth paragraph I'm like get to the point dude.

OMG GOG 2. waaaaaaaahloooool

Then Ronland shouldn't watch one punch man or anything from marvel and dc. Oh wait inivciables and another superhero franchise is being made, so other companies too. GODLIZZA LOSER who doesn't realize his latest film is just as absurd as anything other epic sififi bockbuster.

Meh, Emmerich is a talentless hack who just happened to stumble onto success with Independence Day. I don't give a damn what he says.

It's funny Emmerich would say that because I've been wanting to see Emmerich get involved in the MCU for a superhero disaster film. He's really good at destruction porn.

Like, if Marvel ever got the FF rights back, seeing Roland Emmerich take on Galactus could be interesting.

I find his claim of "original ideas" funny given how White House Down was two months after Olympus Has Fallen.
