Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Miles? Maybe he's Robbie or a race lifted JJJ.

There was an unverified report a while back where it was said there were two villains: Keaton's character and a younger minority character. That could be it. (The Tinkerer?)

Yeah that possibility had occurred to me as well.

He also mentioned that he had had a heart attack like five years before the events of this film as well. And he even claims that that factored into his decision to go into politics.

It is kind of hilarious to think that the guy with such a dismal record of handling super-powered threats, managed to get himself appointed Secretary of State and is one of the people involved in this whole "monitoring the Avengers" thing. I'm actually surprised that no character in the film brought up his failure to contain/capture the Hulk for years, or him accidentally helping to create Abomination while trying to find a way to stop the Hulk (which makes the chaos in Harlem during TIH partially his fault as well).

Not sure what good it would do.

  • Stark: I think it's ridiculous that you're in charge of us when you completely botched the operation to capture the Hulk.
  • Ross: Well, you're welcome to your opinion. Unfortunately, while I was working as a general and politician every day for the last decade to make our nation and the world great, you spent the last decade building an illegal private army for Stark Industries and have never, at any point, made an effort to be part of the system that ultimately selected me. You don't get to complain about not having a vote when you refuse to be involved in the process.
  • Stark: ...kinda preaching to the choir. I mean, that's basically why I'm here.
  • Ross: I know, I'm just bouncing off you because we couldn't figure out any realistic way for Rogers to be present for this conversation.

No but it's still weird that it never comes up, because you'd expect it to given what happened previously. And I wouldn't be Stark who mentions it probably.

Someone just suggested Glover could be Ben Urich's nephew Phil and even though that won't happen I want it so bad.

Yeah, either Hobie Brown or Aaron Davis would be cool. (Especially because Hobie Brown eventually does become Spider-Man.)

If they ever do, I wonder if they're going to have the rape scene and treat it with the gravity it deserves.

[up][up]In one of the worlds in Secret Wars (2015), he did, with the joke that nobody took him seriously and just called him "Spider Hero". It was great.
