Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Sure. The extradition, trial, and sentencing would probably take a few years to complete, which means there was absolutely no urgency requiring Cap to keep Bucky away from Stark's Avengers. Had Cap gone right back to the compound after Bucky woke up, he could turn Bucky in, sign the Accords, get debriefed by Stark, grab a thumbs-up from Ross, fly the Avengers out to Siberia, and be back home with Zemo in chains before the desk jockeys even finished the paperwork to check Bucky in.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, there's no obligation to have Bucky go to Moscow with them.
Hell, that might have derailed Zemo's plan; when Iron Man learns about the fate of his parents, he might react calmer knowing that Bucky's securely imprisoned back home to be questioned, rather than standing right there a free man, palling around with Steve on his adventure.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Even if he flips out, having everyone from Hawkeye to the Vision there with him because there wasn't a huge Airport battle would mitigate any damage he could do.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Well, probably not Hawkeye. He only un-retired because there was a schism in the first place and Cap needed support.
But also, he wouldn't be presently dealing with the trauma of his best friend being crippled in said airport battle, so he'd be even less likely to flip out.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I think Freeman being signed on for Black Panther was one of the earliest things people found out about him after he was announced. The way they portray him in CW is already a little Gyrich-y, so I'm thinking they might just make him into a Composite Character of the two since Everett Ross's role as Supporting Protagonist in the comics probably won't translate as well to the big screen, which I expect to follow T'Challa's perspective more closely. They'll probably dump him on T'Challa as part of the Accords or something.

Maybe he'll be in Thunderbolts!
- Ross: They've given me clearance to make my own peacekeeping force, so I'm hiring Zemo, the Abomination, and a few other inmates we've got. They'll be fitted with shock nanites to keep them in line.
- Tony: That's disturbing and I'm probably going to have to clean up your mess.
- Ross: Probably! We're calling this team the Thunderbolts, naturally.
- Tony: I'm compelled to ask why.
- Ross: ...because of my nickname. Thunderbolt Ross.
- Senator Ross: You want to run that by me again?
- Ross: What? Oh, sorry. I keep getting us confused.
Bucky's being temporarily detained at a U.N. facility in Germany while arrangements to be extradited to Wakanda are made. He's not being tried in Germany.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.In my opinion, nobody came out of civil war looking very hot. Cap is totally willing to tell the entire world to go to hell if it gets between him and what he wants while also keeping secrets because he thinks he knows best; Tony is busy confining people without even informing them that they are confined, blackmailing minors into battle, trying to murder people in a blind rage and ignoring an agreement that he signed when it gets in his way; and the "legitimate oversight" is content to blatantly dehumanize thor, hulk and wanda, be gigantic hypocrites by hiring Ross, blow off evidence that the person they're witch-hunting is actually innocent and ignoring that one of the people pushing the accords decides that he can run around another country dressed up in a black catsuit taking the law into his own hands, which is supposedly what they're so pissed off about the avengers doing. And that's not mentioning that a single guy managed to run rings around all three of them.
I hope that after Thanos is beaten they're all able to sit down, admit to their respective mistakes and hash out an agreement that everyone can live with.

This is exactly my problem with the Accords and with Tony's side in general; it's good in theory but I don't know how well it will work in practice. The Avengers can't go around doing whatever they want with absolutely no oversight and no consequences for collateral damage (and what with them being US based it absolutely REEKS of imperialism to me), but I don't think the Accords is the way to do it. I guess that kind of puts me on Cap's side then? I dunno, I'm more thinking Both Sides Have a Point.
But since we're on the topic of extradition, what rights are provided to convicted people by the Wakandan government? I'm not very familiar with Wakanda comic book history. And were they even planning on extraditing Bucky, anyway? Wasn't there a shoot-to-kill order issued on him?
When we're done, there won't be anything left.According to Sharon there was, though they apparently changed their minds towards the end when they just arrested him. As for Wakanda, I don't remember if they ever bring up the justice system in detail at least in Priest's work. When T'Challa outlawed the Jabari tribe they were punished by vigilante fundamentalists rather than tried in any proper court. And the traditionalists use combat in lieu of legal challenges.
There seems to be an automatic death sentence for murdering high ranking political figures. The current series by Ta-nehisi Coates (which is really great) has a subplot about a young woman who becomes a vigilante after she was sentenced to death for killing a chieftain who was implied to be molesting young girls. T'Challa's mom said while she sympathized with the intent, the laws were very strict about things like that, even if the victim was a scumbag who had it coming.
So if that's the case I can't imagine Bucky would fare any better for killing their damn king.
