Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well, they are gods, technically. Incest just comes with the territory. As do genderbending, shapeshifting, and getting pregnant while a horse.
Mythology is frequently awesome.
Speaking of Loki's offspring, does Marvel!Hel come in half-human/half-corpse like her Norse counterpart, or does she look like a "normal" human being?

It's totally OK because they're Not Blood Siblings.
Normal usually, and often big breasted. Think she might be skeletal in her lower half or maybe I'm thinking of some other work.

Hela IS Loki's daughter in the mythology, so there will be uproar from Europe if Marvel DON'T do that plotline. They can explain it away that she is a product of a fling, which is why we haven't heard of her so far. I'm more excited for Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie TBH because now there's a female character that we can actually root for in the Thor movies that isn't Sif.
Disney butchered Greek mythology, Marvel turned Thor blonde and called the Asgardians aliens. I don't expect it to be faithful.
If anything Hela may gets adopted like Loki.

Non Indicative UsernameDoes anyone in Europe actually give a shit about Norse mythology anymore? If people were that reverent towards Norse myths, I figure they'd have a bigger problem with Americans turning their gods into comic book superheroes in the first place.
He was explicitly only going along with it because he was outvoted and he's not the kind of person to go, "No, f*ck you, I'm going to let the world burn because I'm not getting my way."
He also went behind Cap's back to completely undermine his decision and continue S.H.I.E.L.D. in secret.
They probably should, but don't. Like, Ross was acting in Civil War as though the Avengers misplaced Thor. They didn't. He went home. They know exactly where he is: Asgard. But to the rest of the world he just disappeared one day.
This. After Disney turned the story of Heracles into a fairly decent adaptation of Christian mythology, I see no reason to assume that anyone involved in the production of the MCU cares overmuch about being faithful to the mythology.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The problem with Hercules always was and always will be that it butchered the original story without any understanding what it is actually about and then went and sold that as a child-friendly version of the old mythos. With Marvel, all this is a little bit less of an issue because the premise is from the get go "yeah, we plucked that out of the mythology and made it our own". I doubt that many will care how they change the mythology, especially since nobody cared so far, either. I could list all the changes they did so far, but why bother? Let's just say that the family relation in Norse Mythology is a little bit more complicated.
I mean, to be fair, with Thor, the fact that some of its changes are pretty obvious (particularly, it Doing In the Wizard) would probably get people to realize that this isn't an especially accurate representation.
Leviticus 19:34It's a bit of gray and grey morality. I'm not defending Cap's flaws in there despite me agreeing with some of his stance. On the same token, I'm not defending Tony's flaws either, even though I find myself agreeing with bits of his stance a bit more than I do with Cap's.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?To comment on mythology, the very first Thor comic was a sci-fi tale about some white guy a doctor who found a stick, turned into what was essentially an avatar, and kicked the shit out of a bunch of aliens.
And let's not forget Thor and Loki being raised as brothers, the central relationship between them in both the comics and films, being complete bullshit. Loki actually has more of a bond to Odin than anyone else, and it's kinda confusing as fuck.

Hoo boy, the Thor/Loki shippers are going to scream if that happens. Probably with accusations of queerbaiting getting slung around.
