Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

My beef isn't with romance so much as shipping. I've always that I want all ships to be more like the Titanic.
No matter whether it's a heterosexual relationship or a homosexual relationship, people get really crazy with shipping, seeing anything and everything characters do as absolute proof of their chosen relationship, using it as an excuse to bash other characters because they are somehow in the way, and other bullshit.
And writers are kinda damned if you do, damned if you don't as well. If they don't bother with the romance, the crazier shippers will do exactly this, and take over everything. If they do try a romance arc, then said shippers will go crazy....and do exactly what they'd do if there was no romance arc anyway.
That being said, I think the former idea is better. Don't get crazy with romance. You can't help what the fans do, so just write what makes sense for them, and get ready for the storm.
I don't care about the kiss myself. It lead to Wingman Bucky and Sam, which is far more important to me.
So in short shipping is dumb. Vote Handsome Rob.
One Strip! One Strip! The obvious protagonist of Infinity War is Howard the Duck.
Plot twist: the MCU is actually the longest and most expensive Robot Chicken sketch ever made.
The Bruce/Natasha ship never bothered me because it wasn't true love or anything. It barely left port. It fell apart at the end because Bruce and Nat had different priorities.
A lot of people complained that the ship didn't make sense? They were right. And that's why it didn't work out.
It was an intentional shipwreck.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
Never mind my post. Vote for this guy.
Edit: Dammit Bocaj! I almost convinced people to vote for you! Don't
me like that again.

One Strip! One Strip!Ruffalo Hulk is just a Jerkass to me and goes against a lot of the characterization of Norton Hulk. Not all his fault, obviously the writers wanted a different direction, but I don't like it. That's all.
Oissu!Infinity Protagonist: Howard the Duck it is!
Sam and Bucky were definitely the best thing about the kiss, and one of the best dynamics in the movie, period. Especially when they took time out of pestering each other to snark about Spidey. Sam generally had great moments, though. "So you like cats?" to T'Challa was one of my favourite quotes.
Shipping: I don't get it, but as long as people don't get aggressive about it, I don't mind? I do admit it sometimes gets a little tiring when you, say, enjoy the relationships Steve has with Sam and Bucky, and get endless discussions where people try to prove that Steve is either moving on from his relationship with Bucky to be with Sam, or that his relationship with Sam is much less important!!!11Eleventy than the one with Bucky. To me, that seems to put a pretty narrow focus on the kinds of relationships Steve has in the movies.

I'd say it's middling.
- Jessica/Luke - All of the yes!
- Tony/Pepper - Great!
- Clint/Laura - Also great!
- Matt/Elektra - It has its downs but they're kinda the point. I can get behind the tragedy of this romance.
- Bruce/Natasha - Not great, but not terrible.
- Peter/Gamora - ...is...is this a thing that's happening? I'm not really sure if this is a thing that's happening. I hope not.
- Scott/Hope - Well, that came right the f*ck out of nowhere.
- Steve/Sharon - Came right the f*ck out of nowhere and is super creepy to boot!
- Matt/Karen - This ship is terrible and would be the thing that drags Dare Devil down if it wasn't happening alongside the horrendous The Hand subplot.
- Thor/Jane - Our prayers to Odin were finally answered when this ship was allowed to die.
The Bruce/Natasha ship never bothered me because it wasn't true love or anything."
It was infatuation. Natasha felt a giddy rush of warmth when socializing with Bruce because he offered what no other man has: kindness - Hulk aside, there is generosity deep inside the scientist that she never experienced from these other men. His appearance, his income, his intelligence, and his big life accomplishments didn't matter in contrast to his apptidue to not seek out violence or abuse it. However, because Hulk is a part of him he could not perform an act of kindness towards her. The result? She said fuck it and went on with life.
A one time thing. Natasha thought she could get away with something she never had. For Natasha that kinda sucks since she was trained to and learned to be dominant.
Infatuation is not love. Sidenote: if two people kiss that doesn't automatically mean they are in love people. Romance isn't written like that!

I was going to make a crack about Jessica/Kilgrave being universally agreed to be the MCU's greatest OTP, but even as a joke, the idea is so offensive that basically the only people who would actually find it funny are people who laugh at rape jokes, so I refrained.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Okay bit could you maybe provide examples of what specifically make you think he's a jerkass please?
Wait when did this happen?

The way he talks to everyone. The way he snaps at Black Widow in both Avengers and Ao U, and how he gets so pissed off whenever the Hulk is mentioned. Falling asleep when Tony is trying desperately to get some stuff off his chest. Yes, there are contextual reasons for his behaviour but compared to Norton's portrayal he comes off as having taken several levels in jerkass offscreen for no reason to me.
Oissu!

I have it on good authority that Darcy Lewis is the main character in Infinity Wars.
I don't mind Steve/Sharon, but want Sharon to be a supporting character in the Black Widow movie (or wherever else it seems appropriate), so she can do things with people other than Steve (same goes for Sam and Bucky, but with them it's evidently happening, so I wish it mostly for her). Bruce/Natasha was very Suddenly, Love! for me. And I got really irritated at Bruce faceplanting in Nat's boobs, that was some very deep and clever storytelling there, Whedon. Other than that, eh, whatever. Seems everyone is ignoring it, anyway.
