Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Sure, it is. She was in "assaulted law enforcement officials, destroyed U.N. property, and facilitated the theft of military technology" jail.
Yes!

Non Indicative UsernameI had no idea people got so bent out of shape over the Sharon kiss. These days I feel like the notion of just mutual attraction without it having to be twu wuv is alien to most fandoms. Then again, maybe the nine million Stucky shippers wouldn't have been fond of it regardless.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.The Avengers were the law enforcement officials I was referring to. They're a legal authority now. The airport battle wasn't "Two sides of the paramilitary group butting heads with each other," it was a group of fugitives fighting the peacekeepers designated to bring them in.
This is precisely why Wanda and the like are in prison for their side of the fight but Vision isn't, even though he caused the most collateral damage when he knocked over that towerListen! : because Vision had a legal right to use force in that battle and Wanda didn't.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.So, does anyone familiar with Wong in the comic? Does he have any magic power or is just a normal "manservant".
I think most of the romance was shoehorned in to shot down any of the slash ships involving the male characters. Not that it's effective and the "bland LI" became The Scrappy in the fandom instead.

I'm not talking about Marvel in particular (although in the case of Strange, this is probably the reason with McAdam's character), but most bland romances in general. Marvel is usually just does that out of respect for the source material (Jane, Betty, Pepper, Peggy etc.)

Yeah, in the grand scheme of things I really cannot imagine shippers are that huge of a potential problem. What likely happened is they wanted Sharon to be the li because she's Cap's iconic li in the comics. But in a movie like Civil War where there are approximately 8 billion superheroes, it got lost in the shuffle.
It's not without precedent. Way back in the day, Batgirl and Batwoman were originally introduced for the purpose of discouraging claims that Batman and Robin were gay.
Detractors of the Sharon Kiss see it as basically the same principle. Sharon dropped off everyone's stuff and Cap went, "Thanks for the stuff. Here, let me take a moment to CLEARLY AND UNMISTAKABLY REAFFIRM MY HETEROSEXUALITY, THIS IS TOTES CANON YOU GUYS. Okay, good, now f*ck off, the movie doesn't need you anymore. I'm going back to my sausage party."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Sure, it does. Peggy's dead. She hasn't been his love interest since the first Cap movie. In a film that revolves so heavily around the manly relationships that manly men have with other men - one where Cap's entire character arc revolves around his endless and unyielding love for his manly manfriend for whom he would go anywhere and do anything for - it makes perfect sense that the same writers who've been so reluctant to give us much female, minority, or LGBT representation would throw in a brief, out-of-nowhere Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today? moment.
For a film where even people who haven't seen the previous ones are describing the characters with phrases like, "the gay robot arm guy" or talking about how Bucky is clearly the Love Interest, it makes perfect sense to me that Marvel's staff would have tried to counteract the romantic connotations to Cap and Bucky's relationship in the film by shoehorning the kiss. Bucky is Cap's Damsel in Distress and that comes with certain implications that they didn't want attached to the film. Thus, Sharon.
So, they kiss. It's awkward and comes out of nowhere and is never brought up again - and neither does she because she f*cks off immediately afterwards, having fulfilled her only purpose for being in the movie: making it absolutely clear that Cap is totes heterosexual and still heterosexual and he would never be in love with Bucky because he's so heterosexual.

Oissu!Reminds me of how Peggy was suddenly in a love triangle in the second season of Agent Carter
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

That's a funny way of spelling "every Cap and Sam's on screen appearance."
When we're done, there won't be anything left.
