Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, but how are they gonna wedge him into the MCU?
Obviously they can't say he's a mutant because Fox pretty much owns that word when it comes to Marvel movies. ...Unless this is part of some elaborate and crazy plan to bring mutants into the MCU so they have something else to use after the time and space shenanigans that the Infinity War movies will inevitably have...
(Realizes he's rambling.)
...Would anyone be mad if they changed Namor into an Inhuman? (Nervous grin)
So, does anyone see a good fan-made poster with Brie Larson as Carol? Most of the images I see so far look really awkward and unappealing to Brie.
Anyway, I'm kind of curious how Ant-man & the Wasp would proceed, given that Scott is on the run now. Would the franchise focus on getting Janet back from the Microverse while Scott contributing in secret?
The same way they wedged Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Spider-Man?
That could always be changed for the movies.

I believe Stark Tech can build scanners for that, assuming he is willing to cooperate.
Non Indicative UsernameHe's not willing to cooperate. As soon as Ross said "Hey I think these guys are escaping" He pressed the ignore button. Were it not for the Bucky and Zemo thing half the crew would've probably been on the Accords anyway. He's probably willing to just go over them and try to have them cleared after some time has passed to allow things to blow over.
The Blog The ArtSo when is new info on Dr strange coming out?
I think ant man and Wasp should go cyberpunk by shrinking down into computer space. Anyway the director has to resolve the Hydra/Ten Ring plot thread. I believe Wasp has been searching for that guy since AM. If someone chooses they can have Ross remember Scott was imprisoned in the Raft, so he means "trouble"

That Idris Elba statement has been Quote Mined and blown out of proportion. He was referring to the harness in one of the scenes he had to play being a pain in the ass, but aside from that hasn't made any mention of the studios mistreating him or having problems with his role. Also it misrepresents the pay issues with Terrence Howard (people might disagree with the outcome, but the circumstances weren't unreasonable). If there's anything relating to Howard's treatment that actually deserves to be called racist it would be Perlmutter's supposed comments on how audiences being dumb enough to confuse him for Don Cheadle, not that.

The article has some fair criticisms but there are a few points that I think are questionable.
While I understand the sentiment, it's disingenuous to imply that this is out of some desire to not compromise the MCU's "straight male whiteness" because Marvel has made the (honestly sensible) decision not to overly reference the TV shows in their movies. A lot less people watch them, and in the case of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, the audiences for those shows are a lot more restricted. Jessica being a woman has very little to do with her story not being referenced in the films.
Which fans?
I'm trying not to underestimate the number of people displeased with the various representation, creative control, and writing issues in Marvel films over the years, but I also can't help but feel a lot of people don't really care about these kinds of social issues and just want to see a movie they find fun. The article seems to imply Marvel is in some kind of danger (although maybe I'm reading too much into it) but I don't see that being the case. I don't see Marvel's success dropping off unless they make movies that fail to entertain or catch on with audiences for a while, which I find unlikely given their track record thus far.

According to the article, Marvel Studios is openly hostile to anyone that's not a white man, and only allows diversity in their TV shows so that they don't have to do it for their movies, which, by the way, are steadily going to shit until Black Panther and Captain Marvel can inject some new blood. Also using Hydra openly endorses antisemitism, which Marvel is fine with so long as they make money.
I....just.....what??

In addition to Katee Sackhoff, I've heard Yvonne Strahovsky suggested for the role of Carol Danvers. I liked her in Chuck but that and the Mass Effect games are all I've seen of her.
