Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

We haven't seen the Time Gem yet.
- Space Gem - Tesseract
- Reality Gem - Aether
- Power Gem - That ball from Guardians.
- Mind Gem - Loki's Scepter
- Time Gem - Unaccounted for
- Soul Gem - Unaccounted for
IIRC Soul Gem was Sealed Evil in a Can in the comics. Not that they can't change it like they did the Mind Stone.
My money's on Soul Gem for Dr. Strange, Time Gem for Ragnarok.
Yes and no. Same goal, different ways to get there. The Soul Gem can resurrect those who've died. The Time Gem can unkill them.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't see why they would be. Reversing someone's death should work fine.
The Infinity Gems have a lot of overlap in what they can do on account of the fact that they're so immensely powerful. Like, if you need to get to the other side of the universe, you could use the Space Gem to pop yourself over there or use the Reality Gem to fold space so you can just step there.
Having one is enough to qualify as godlike power. That's why combining the six is such a big deal.
Either Time or Soul should be able to bring the dead back to life. You could probably also do it with the Reality Gem by just warping reality in such a fashion that they aren't dead.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The Mind and Power Stones still need nifty names.
Get on it, Marvel.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersActually, going by the way they've described the Eye of Agamotto, I think that's going to be the Time Stone.
Oh God! Natural light! It sounds like the Eye of Agamotto will be the Time Stone

@Bocaj, I thought the Power Stone was supposed to be "The Orb" on account of it being contained in a spherical object and being referred to as such for part of the movie.
And the Mind stone has nifty names. Before it was "The Scepter" and now it's Robot Dad Vision

The Blog The ArtIf Steve had survived the War, not only could he possibly discovered the truth about the Winter Soldier and avoided the deaths of Howard and Maria, Tony would be a very different person. His upbringing would've been very different, and most likely better.
See, he spent his whole childhood being compared to Captain America by his father, and found lacking. Part of that is Howard elevating Steve to sainthood after his death, along with (I suspect) never truly dealing with his own grief. If Steve had lived, Howard would have gotten to know him a lot better and realized that though he was a good man, he still had flaws and faults just like everyone else. And even if Howard had put on blinders and ignored that, the first time Steve caught him treating his son that way he would've hit the roof. Even if he didn't actually take Howard outside and beat the shit out of him, there would definitely be a confrontation. And if Howard got a stiff neck and played the "you can't tell me how to raise my son" card, it wouldn't matter. Now that Steve knew what was happening, he'd go out of his way to spend time with Tony and give him the support and validation and care that he needed, along with Peggy. Tony would think of him as Uncle Steve who was always there for him, instead of the absent Big Brother Tony could never measure up to.
As an adult Tony might still adopt a public persona, but it probably wouldn't consist of him doing his level best to convince the world he was a selfish asshole that didn't give a damn about anyone or anything but himself. And since the issues that caused them would be much reduced, he probably wouldn't be such a hard drinking womanizer, either. I mean, there'd probably be some of that, but not to such toxic levels. If Steve and Peggy had any kids, he wouldn't have to wait until he met Rhodey to have actual friends.
If Iron Man still came to be, it likely wouldn't be fueled by guilt. More likely frustration. Say, Tony comes up with a prototype to solve a problem for the military, but they reject it because they don't want to pay that much for it. The problem is still happening and Tony remembers that time Steve took matters into his own hands and saved a bunch of PO Ws, and decides he'll handle it himself. Because Captain America is a bad influence
.
... I... had a lot more thoughts about that than I thought I did. Sorry.

Which one was the Time Stone again? Tesseract was Space, Sceptre was Mind...
ETA: Or he'd be Aaron Tyler Johnson's Godzilla character.
Wanda: Uhm...
