Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That's the thing though: fighting the Winter Soldier is hard, because WS doesn't care if you are a combattant, a teenager with super strength, or an old lady doing shopping, if you're in the way of his mission, he'll flatten you. Bucky doesn't fight like that at all, he pulls his punches, and is mostly going for evasive maneouvres. As soon as he noticed that Peter was a kid, Peter was effectively out of danger, because he wouldn't have done anything big for fear of hurting him.

He doesn't pull his punches that much. He promised Cap he wouldn't kill anyone when they were fighting Bucharest's police, then proceeded to effortlessly smash his way through them and chuck one off the stairwell. Cap actually called him out on it.
And, I mean, Cap himself later dumped a shipping container on the kid so if Cap's not holding back, why would Bucky be?
EDIT: Just noticed this isn't the Civil War thread.

Maybe his idea of "non-lethal" mirrors Matt Murdoch's?
He's a bit wild in that first fight, true, but he does throw the special forces only when Steve is around to catch them (or, alternately, throws Steve at them in the first place) and he is a lot more careful after Steve tells him to reign it in.
Steve did that only after it became clear how strong Peter is, though. Also, generally, the MCU has interesting ideas about what people can realistically survive. There seems to be a lot of leeway here.
Argh, you're right. Sorry, everyone!
ETA: Totally cute Sam/Bucky fanart
(very SFW).

The shows are all in different licenses, so they might not have the rights to make Jessica Jones stuff yet.
Or even if they do, Hot Toys has a pretty big production slate that doesn't usually involve a lot of TV shows. It might take time to get to JJ stuff.
That's actually a fair point. IIRC, merchandisers pay the IP-holder for license rights, not the other way around, so it's possible they only had or wanted to spend the money for one of the properties.
And although JJ is one of the most important works in the entire MCU, it's not exactly toyetic. "Alright kids, do you want to play with the serial rapist, the traumatized young woman who swears never again, or the unstable murderer high on toxic-masculine rejection of his status as a victim?"
The thought of Kilgrave action figures makes me physically ill.

You forgot the hilarious socially awkward neighbour, who has three completely different insensitive remarks, which are guaranteed to offend at least two different people at once. Includes Idiot Ball and uncomfortable incestuous undertones with her brother.

Costumes are more toyetic. That's, like, the entire reason superheroes wear them: the characters stand out more both in comics and in toys when they're clad in bright, flashy colors that jump out and go, "SHABAM, Superhero!"
A superhero's costume is basically their marketing campaign. Peter Parker wears a costume to fight crime in order to protect his loved ones, blah blah, but the real reason he wears it is because Spider-Man is more visually distinctive and eye-catching than "Brown-haired white guy with doodads on his wrist".

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I wonder if they'll ever do a variety of Steve's Nomad costume
◊ in the movies. I know it's not likely, but man, that thing is awesome.
I could see it as a gag. Costume party or something.
- Steve: I should have known better than to let you pick my costume.
- Bucky: (trying desperately not to crack up) Come on, you'll be the belle of the ball.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.- T'Challa: To make amends for my attempt at killing your friend, I've fashioned a vibranium weave suit to protect you from harm in your future endeavors.
- Steve: If it's supposed to protect me from harm, why is there a huge V-shaped opening right over the chest, where all my vital organs are?
- T'Challa: Because although I accept my responsibility for my misassumptions, I still don't actually like you very much. You will find a copy of the Accords in the box for you to sign.

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing. It's a gimmick.
They can't come out and call it a gimmick because it's an actively ongoing story and anyone at Marvel would be fired in a heartbeat for going, "Yeah, it's just a stupid publicity stunt, don't bother reading it." But it's a gimmick.
Like, people keep reporting folks at Marvel swearing up and down that, no, seriously, this is a real thing and it's not going to get undone and it's a super big deal. But what answer do you think you're going to get when you asked someone at Marvel, "Is this a stupid gimmick that's going to be undone a year from now?"
