Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So, I just got online and my Twitter feed is lit the hell up with #Captain America. Because Marvel decided Comics!Cap is HYDRA. And maybe always was; I'm not sure. I seem to be the only one assuming that a) Steve's pulling an epic swerve, or b) this is going to turn out to not be the real Steve Rogers.

Strange, that was the exact thing I thought of when I read about this!
But yeah, I'm sure this is totally real and has nothing at all to do with (vague spoilers for the storyline before this issue of Cap started, just to be sure) what was used to turn Steve back from an old, non-serum'd guy into his usual super-serum-powered self.
Looking at twitter/tumblr, people sure aren't pleased about this plot twist, though.

They really tried to convince people that he was dead! Not sure anyone really believed it, but, oh, they tried.

...How and why?
This song needs more love.Count me in on the "they can't be this stupid" train.
And on the "furious that they think WE'RE this stupid" train. Either they made one of the moral pillars of the Marvel Universe a double agent for a Nazi offshoot, or they genuinely believe trying to make us think they did so is good writing or that we're dumb enough to go along with it.

Or maybe even a Cosmic Cube who thinks she is a four-year-old girl and has adopted Bucky Barnes and a handful of super villains as her babysitters. She's the one who turned Steve back from old guy to young guy and likely messed up somehow. Either that, or time travel.

So HYDRA has been hijacking Cap as they has been hijacking SHIELD?

I think they could do a more comics-accurate form of the Novaforce by establishing that after sustaining such massive casualties from the events of Guardians of the Galaxy, they were reorganized into a much smaller, but much more elite force wielding powers derived from the Power Stone (sort of like how Hydra had weaponized tesseract energy in Cap 1).
