Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

4Well the director of JJ used a lot of subtext to handle rape instead of shoving the actuality of it our faces uhuhm GOT. And it was filmed well as if Melissa researched real life rapist and victims http://writeworld.org/post/87739766235/some-broad-advice-on-writing-about-rape
. Writing stories of abuse isn't hard if you put in the work. There are guidelines. Making it closer to our reality is the best thing possible, same goes for mental illness

Jess may cause Continuity Lock-Out, Kamala is more likely if some actions get carried to New Jersey.
Kamala would suit Agents of Shield well.
Non Indicative UsernameWait, how would Jess cause Continuity Lock-Out? :/
Kamala could be a good fit for Agents of SHIELD, I suppose, but I'm not sure how easily a TV budget could handle her powers. Also, she's 16, so joining the Secret Warriors would be a little...iffy, I think.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.hnm interesting about MCU's spiderman's life http://www.tor.com/2016/05/25/growing-up-in-the-marvel-cinematic-universe/
This small bit got me more excited for Homecoming than I thought I would be. I hope it addresses topics like this.
Actually, put like that it might be pretty interesting to have a Spider-Man movie without a super-powered villain at all, just have him as a literal neighbourhood hero going around busting muggers in Queens before realising he has the potential (and therefore the responsibility) to be more, though given he's already thrown down with half the Avengers and survived this might be a tricky concept to sell. Or at least have the baddie as someone like Hammerhead or Tombstone, tough enough to present a physical threat but their actual power is by being crime lords, and Spidey works his way up the chain as the movie goes on.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."This is gonna be Carol's first movie, and there's gonna be more focus on establishing her and her world, I imagine. The MCU movies generally follow a pattern where they start with a single superhero, focus mostly on them, and then introduce superpowered sidekicks or partners in the sequel. Tony is the only hero in Iron Man 1. Rhodey is there but be doesn't become War Machine until Part 2. They repeated the exact same formula with Hope Van Dyne in Ant-Man. Falcon doesn't show up until Captain America 2. We're not getting Valkyrie until Thor 3.
They're likely gonna follow that pattern for Captain Marvel, and having Ms. Marvel and Spider-Woman there unnecessarily complicates the story.
As for Ms. Marvel in Agents of SHIELD, I have a feeling the next season will be their last.

The Captain Marvel movie could have the backdrop of the Kree dealing with the political fallout of Ronan's antics.

I don't think the Kree care much. When Nova Prime asked them to disavow Ronan's actions as a token gesture of diplomacy, they basically went, "Pfft, blow me."

I think Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be the best time to deal with any direct fallout from those events, though they it could certainly carry forward into Captain Marvel.
Ultimately, a lot is going to depend on whether the Captain Marvel movie is more earthbound or more cosmic, and she's one of the few characters (if not the only character) where there isn't an obvious answer to that question even for her first solo movie. A largely earthbound Captain Marvel would have more room for characters like Kamala Khan or Jessica Drew, but given it's placement between the two halves of Infinity War, a cosmic movie might make a lot more sense storywise.

Given the immense damage Ronan did to Xandar's military and infrastructure, I don't expect they will.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Assuming they ever did that in the first place. The MCU seems to be treating the Nova Corps as a regional authority instead of intergalactic space peacekeepers. Their conflict with the Kree Empire is treated like a fragile peace treaty between opposed nations.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I believe James Gunn has said he has no plans for Dick Rider but that doesn't mean someone else can't come along and give him a movie. It just might be difficult to dance around the Nova Corps as Guardians established them.

I do, too. But I don't see why both Jess and Kamala couldn't be in the Captain Marvel movie. :/
