Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

To be fair, both Marvel and DC seem to be aware the card doesn't work anymore, openly acknowledging certain twists will at some point be undone while simultaneously trying to allow those twists to run as far as they can go. Marvel, for instance, has been quite committed in keeping Wolverine six feet under.
But yeah, I fully acknowledge that asking for Quicksilver back is pure fanboyism, and while there are ways to do it there's nothing (as far as I know) that wouldn't cheapen both his death and Wanda's development since. But damn can it still hurt a bit.

I mean, when Thanos inevitably gets the Infinity Gauntlet and the power of a God, he could totally tempt Scarlet Witch by bringing Quicksilver back to life. In the comics, he pretty much killed half the universe and then that was reversed at the end. So technically, it could happen. But it probably won't, because then death would be completely meaningless.
I've always thought that this would be the best way to do it, as Thanos's opening move or something after he gets hold of the stones. "I have power over life and death, and you're all fucked."

Actually, I think post Infinity War you could bring Quicksilver back and use how long he's been gone as a jumping off point for good character development.
A good writer/director could explore the time he's lost in a different way from Captain America, since unlike Cap everyone he knew is still alive. It'd be interesting to see how he adjusts to a world with supers popping up left and right, no Avengers, and his sister having come into being a superhero on her own.
So I watched the first episode of Season Two (I know) of Daredevil.
Am I supposed to ship Murgy? Because I ship it way harder than Karen and either of them, within the first two minutes.
My various fanfics. That does sound like a really cool idea. Let's see:
- Steve: Peggy
- Tony: His parents
- Thor: Odin (assuming he dies in Ragnarok)
- Wanda: Quicksilver
- Star Lord: His mom
- T'Challa: T'Chaka
I can't think of anyone for Widow, Hawkeye, or Hulk.
This song needs more love.Banner could get himself as he could have been if the Hulk wasn't part of his life.
Widow (and Bucky, if he's there) having to face down everyone she killed Sorrow style would be awesome, that or having to face her old self in some way.
I was, it's just that Banner hasn't really lost anybody. But he has lost any possibility of a normal life or anything that could make him happy.

Seriously, from the moment I heard "You're my partner, I don't wanna lose you," I just wanted to scream MAKE OUT ALREADY
My various fanfics. The guys who ran season two were way too boring for that to occur to them.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Me neither. It's lazy storytelling plus I don't want Clintasha's Fan Dumb to get that satisfaction.
Lazy storytelling?
You know what? Anyone else, I'd have said it's a sure thing, but in this case, MCU gets the benefit of the doubt.
But if they waste it, that's it. I don't hand that shit out for free.
One Strip! One Strip!Killing someone's wife and children to make them go on revenge is lazy storytelling. That's why it's used so often — it's basically shorthand, giving a character a very, very basic reason to go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge. It can be used interesting or even subversively — in Mad Max, Max leaves the room before he even knows his wife is dead in order to get revenge and it seems as if he doesn't even care if she lives or dies, he is completely consumed by his rage — but most of the time, it's lazy and requires the killing women and children as a plot device.

Agents of SHIELD also introduces another speedsters, Yo-Yo Rodriguez, who is awesome. They are also careful to make sure her speed isn't a Story-Breaker Power by making it so she can only travel at super-speed for the length of one heartbeat and then bounces back to where she was originally (hence the nickname "Yo-Yo").
