Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Just came back from watching Civil War. HOLY SHIT, that airport fight scene! One of my favorite MCU movies. Above all except the two Avengers, and challenging Avengers 1 for 2nd place.
Completely unrelated, if they were to make another Hulk movie, who would you want as the villains/new characters? Personally, if it has to take place on Earth, I'd go with introducing She-Hulk (who would serve a deuteragonist role in the movie, and then get her own Netflix series afterwards). For the villains I'd have Hammer and Anvil: super obscure Silver Age villains, I'd recommend their introductory Hulk comic: Hammer's father and his dynamic with Hulk and his own son is really good writing. The villains themselves are comedy gold: two utterly reprehensible criminals, one a Scary Black Man, the other a Deep South racist redneck, forced to be tethered together with an nigh-indestructible metal rope that gives tham super strength and endurance, forcing them to fight as a team. Obviously, these two jokers can't carry a movie by themselves (I mean, they could, but they're so minor that it'd be a waste), so have Red Hulk as the final boss with The Leader as the Bigger Bad.
BTW, I'm trying to catch up on the last 50 pages since that's when I bowed out of the thread to avoid Civil War spoilers, so I won't be super responsive.

With the main antagonist being Hela, I certainly wouldn't rule out Odin having an important role in the movie in spite of being dead.
I think if they do make a Hulk movie, some variation of Planet Hulk is actually fairly probable. The fact is the Incredible Hulk was the least successful movie in the MCU, so it makes sense that any hypothetical sequel will go in a radically different direction. In addition now that we have a decent cast list for Thor: Ragnorok, it's safe to say that it's not going to be a Planet Hulk movie that is nominally a Thor movie for legal reasons.
Would Planet Hulk be easier or harder than a normal Hulk movie? What I mean is, one of the big problems with the Hulk is that he's expensive to CG-in among the live-action actors. Would a Planet Hulk movie be basically all CG, and thus cheaper?
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.
When I say "Planet Hulk movie" I am only speaking in extremely broad terms. Almost anything beyond Hulk fighting in an arena on an alien world is changeable and it would still be a "Planet Hulk" movie.
Sort of like how the Civil War movie changed the fundamental nature of the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man from the comics, but it was still called "Civil War".
So while a Planet Hulk movie would probably explore the idea of the Hulk being a distinct individual from Banner, that doesn't mean Banner wouldn't have a role in the movie.
Civil War needed to be drastically changed from the source material though, because the comic was terrible.
There's nothing majorly awful about the Planet Hulk comic that warrants a similar level of altering, you'd just need to change how Hulk leaves Earth. I'd rather the story not be used at all if it can't be adapted near-properly.
A Planet Hulk movie would be far preferable to one set on Earth, but if it is on Earth, I have a certain fondness towards Hammer and Anvil. I really do recommend their starting story in Silver Age Hulk; they have possibly the funniest backstory of any Marvel villain ever, and the drama with Hammer's father is really well-written, even if the character is a tad dated.
While I haven't completely written that off, I think it's very important to keep in mind that this is almost certainly going to be a Thor movie that Hulk happens to be in. So while there might be a nod to Planet Hulk somewhere in there, it will likely be subtle enough to avoid closing that particular door in the future.
Overall, ever since the Hulk was confirmed to be in Ragnorok, a lot of the speculation has gone in the direction of "This movie going to be Planet Hulk dressed up as a Thor movie", which I feel is a very wrong way of viewing things.
I suspect at the end of Ragnarok Hulk will be in a position to get a Planet Hulk mini-arc in Infinity War Part I.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Personally, even though Planet Hulk is my favourite Marvel comic of all time, assuming its adaptation gets saved for a Hulk solo movie, I'd prefer they adapt Future Imperfect first.
Ooh, can we get Contest of Champions out of this? Yes please!
Oh my god, I just realized that the first Contest of Champions is a result of a wager between the Grandmaster and Death (which Hela could be in place of), so this movie could technically be an adaptation of that + Simonson's Ragnarok story. Heh. That would be hilarious.

Just imagining this kind of thing for Infinity War:
Tony: Steve I had been hoping we'd meet up again like this, fighting to the death on a giant chessboard.
I also liked Thor The Dark World.
I mean, I didn't even care about there being too much Loki, and thought Malekith was fine.
So I guess I'm the odd man out again.
That's fine. Handsome Rob is a rebel who plays by his own rules. Y'all can't handle me anyway.

So if Odin isn't dead I wonder where he's been for the last 4 years.
