Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Unlike the earlier cap movies, the first two Blade movies are actually liked by the fans. I don't know why, but this version of Blade was considered good.

It's the way that he makes Spidey feel tonight. It's hard to let it go.

I started a Kingdom Hearts thing by using the title of the song in reference to Vulture using establish tech for simplicity.

I'm pretty happy Spider-Man's web-armpits will finally make an appearance.

[up] I never got the point of them. They're not big enough to glide with and if they're ornamentation they'll only get in the way.

No idea, but it's fitting, actually. I googled the character he's playing and, in all honesty, it looks appropriately Goldblum.

Jeff Goldblum is the biggest surprise there.

I didn't even know that Karl Urban was cast. I haven't seen him in Dredd, but if he was good in that, he might make a good Skurge.

The biggest surprise for me is that Hopkins is back. He seemed pretty clear he was done after the last one.

I guess Money, Dear Boy won out?

At least TH can now stop trolling the fanbase by claiming that he is not sure if he will be in the movie.....

Tom Hiddleston.

And yes! Karl Urban as Skurge the Executioner! And Hela! That must mean they will be adapting the last stand at Gjallerbru! WHICH IS AWESOME!

I'm not sure about Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, but I'll reserve any judgment until I see the film. Goldblum is a good actor, so it could totally work, though.

Woohoo! Waikiti and Hulk helped but the confirmation of Tessa and Blanchett and the roles they're playing is the push I needed to get finally excited for Ragnarok now. But Grandmaster? Jeff Goldblum? I don't think anyone could've seen that coming. Strange choice. Too bad Hawkeye's not there to pull the arrow prank on him.
