Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I skipped a couple pages. Again, hoping to avoid Netflix series spoilers.
Back on the subject of "don't fuck with Magneto", does anyone know where I can find that post-Av X conversation between Scott and Magneto, where Scott is all "woe is me, I fucked up", and Magneto refuses to take pity on him, and subtly threatens him?
On an unrelated note:
... so, apparently the X-Men movie ain't good.
Here's hoping this is the cataclysm that brings the Marvel universe together at last. I'm not ashamed to admit that I want this movie to fail. And I mean Fant4stic levels of fail.
Mostly because I'm sick of Mystique and deeply weirded out by her new heroic image. That ain't the Mystique I've come to know and love. Also, Jennifer Lawrence should really stop doing these kind of characters (the lone wolf, jerkass, snarky and dark girl kind of characters). It's like I'm seeing a Katniss-shaped Mystique.
Anyways, carry on!

Which doesn't make him any less eligible for a movie or tv series than those guys. Seriously the last time he was in the public consciousness was that tv series from 2006. If we went with the "had their time to shine" argument Daredevil would never have gotten the Netflix tv show and Captain America would never have gotten another film after the god awful 1990 direct-to-video movie from 1990.
@Explosive Lion: Yeah, I have to say I, too, vastly preferred Rebecca Romijn's unquestionably villainous Mystique. I have nothing against Jennifer Lawrence as an actor, but to me she just looks like a frightened deer. I don't want more cutesy, tragic female characters, I want actual villains.
As we all know Marvel never ever does anything with franchises who used to belong to other studios. That'd be crazy.

If they were really desperate, they could just pull a Cosmic Retcon at the end of Infinity War and create an alternate timeline where everything in the MCU still more or less happened as we saw it, except that, guess what, mutants and the X-Men have always been around too! Just a FYI. Though I honestly doubt they'd go that far unless box office sales dropped so dramatically for both Marvel and Fox that the both of them would see no choice but to pull that kind of crap to try and get their ares out of the fire, though I don't see that happening any time soon either.

Regarding Kilgrave - Spoilers for Wanderlust's benefit.
It's not even that Kilgrave tries really hard to keep a low profile, so much as it is that he doesn't want anything that would warrant a high profile. He has no aspirations of world domination. He doesn't want to steal all the money in the world or 40 cakes or to kill Iron Man. He's just a guy living his life with a superpower that is next to impossible to quantify.
He's a rapist and a murderer, but the rape is next to impossible to prove even without mind control involved - seriously, guys, 4% conviction rate - and his murders are all suicides so there's no reason to ever consider foul play and investigate further.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. They never should have made another Cap movie after the awesome 70's TV movie.

Thing is, it goes back to people being able to successfully tie those events back to him. Before the big invasion in Avengers, the existence of all this weird stuff was a secret to most people, so it was even harder back then for people to be taken seriously because there wasn't any big alien invasion to make someone like Kilgrave seem like a remotely plausible occurrence.
