Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

A little late, but the problem with Betty was that she was written like a love interest instead of a character. An example: she supposedly has a doctor in the same field Bruce has AND was working with him on the same project. So, what does she do once she recovers the data from said project? Holding onto it and doing nothing about it. She could look into a cure on her own, but nope, she just waits around until he turns up again.
Yes That, the action clips of Warcraft look like what a Thor film needs, especially one with Hulk in it. From the ferocity of the Orcs to the hopeless expressions of humans trying their best to survive brings out an intense vibe. There's far more tension and suspense in them, which would work for a post apocalyptic Thor film. It's The external stakes have been lacking.

"Fanboy" and "fangirl" mean different things to me besides gender, though in the kind of things people write online, they tend to follow the same gender breakdown. "Fanboy" means company or Creator Worship, while "fangirl" means character or actor worship, generally rooted in sexual or physical attraction. The former will often lead to Mis-blamed situations, while the latter leads to Draco in Leather Pants bullshit.
I skipped five pages, so maybe someone commented on this, but I have to say: Wow, it's almost like he's a "super soldier" or something.
@romance in the MCU: I don't disagree that on the whole it's been pretty lackluster (aside: pepperony is a hilarious ship name), but in that regard Marvel has just been following a precedent set by other superhero movies, which tend to have mediocre love interests all around if not outright bad ones.
I'm basically with swanpride on this one. Romance isn't inherently bad or anything; relationships are a part of life and there's no problem with film reflecting that. However, if you aren't going to write your love interest as a character separate from the MC, to the point where we can be invested in both separately, you might as well not even bother.
bad love interest have no real agency or passions that don't involve their partner.
Bad love interest set aside everything and anything just for their partner's sake.
Bad love interest automatically forgive their partner's wrong doing.
Bad love interest have no definitive traits outside how they interact with their partner.
Etc

there's nothing wrong with romance and happy endings as long as it's not needlessly used Unum Lois lane

Benedict Cumberbatch was a popular fancast who got picked for exactly the character people wanted him to be.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Can we get a gif of Bucky and Sam approving already? I feel like that's a scene that could be used in one of those "Here's all the great things the critics are saying!" trailers, especially as it's not spoiler filled.
I didn't see anyone want him for Doctor Strange, mainly because I and others who were fancasting for Doctor Strange were hoping it would go to Pedro Pascal, Oded Fehr, or someone not white and at peak pop culture saturation.

haha if Civil War ended like DOJ

@Falrinn: Except that the Variety article talking about Lupita joining the cast said that she's playing T'challa's love interest.
