Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That...is a strange and unexpected choice for Uncle Ben.
Are we sure they are messing with us?
One Strip! One Strip!Oh right.
From when he was somehow dating Marisa Tomei.
I'd forgotten about that.
Good joke. Glad you ruined EXPLAINED IT.
I certainly want to know what Loki has been up to...and why he kept sending Sif to earth. I also wonder if he ordered Thor to obtain the Sceptre again (he certainly was not happy that all this power ended up in Vision instead of his hands)
Nah, they have just been hibernating. Sherlock also has long pauses and that doesn't deter the fangirls at all.

Sif only came to Earth twice in Agents of SHIELD. Once was to get Lorelei (because she was an escaped criminal) and once was because of a Kree (I don't remember if she said she was sent to get him). I don't know if Sif is even gonna have a big role, to be honest.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Maybe we don't have to bitterly murmur about a vague group of 'fangirls'
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

It has autopilot.
IIRC, there was a Word of God statement earlier in the thread about how she's not a teenager, but because of her inexperience, the Avengers kinda condescend towards her.
Regarding Ultron
I think the biggest thing holding back Ultron is that he feels like the second part of a trilogy that is only tangentially related to the first and third parts. Avengers 1 got us all hyped for Thanos and then Avengers 2 delivered Ultron instead. Playing up his connection to Thanos and the Scepter more might have helped him feel like he has more of a place in the series. As it is, Thanos's contributions to Ultron are so subtextual that some people missed them entirely.
As it was, he kinda comes off as a Creature of the Week that exists somewhere off to the side of the main plot, which limits how high the stakes could really go. Like, guys, Thanos is coming. The world's not going to blow up before he gets here.
Pepper was personally motivated. She's the only part that was personally motivated. Killian admits that he wants her as a trophy.
As previously discussed, removing the flashback scene entirely would change next to nothing about the movie. Even this scene could be presented as "Pepper is a trophy of Killian bringing down Iron Man after he called him out in front of the press," instead of "Pepper is a trophy of Killian sticking it to Tony Stark."
Why should he have? It wasn't his project. He was just tinkering with the formula she had because that's how a genius spends the downtime during a One-Night Stand.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
