Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Honestly, that seems redundant.

True. It's just a silly idea I have whenever I watch the movies and I begin to think of it like one big comic book arc.

It always warms my heart to see an actor's predecessors encouraging them like that.

[up]"Fuck that Holland guy."

Joking. He's said he felt "trapped" in the role so I'm sure there's no bad blood.

Andrew Garfield to play Scarlet Spider and Tobey Maguire to play Spider-Carnage.

That plotline, Spider-Verse, and the Clone Saga all give good possibilities for them to show up as Spider-Man again.

Does anyone else ever think about if Marvel would adapt the movies into comic book adaptations? Sometimes I just wanna see those movies turn into comics to see what they'd look like.

They recently did with Captain America 2 and Iron Man 3.

Back before Tom Holland was announced, I had this great (or "great") idea for a Miles Morales Spider-Man, mentored by Tobey Maguire's now-retired Spider-Man.

Picture it: Spider-Man's been gone for a decade. Peter's a scientist, having been injured in a "car accident." JJJ is relaxed and polite in public- right up to the point where Miles swings by the window.

I just saw Civil War! I love it!

Best Marvel movie I have ever seen, hands down. It exceeded every expectation.

I was kind of mleh on Spider-Man's movie next year, but now I'm pretty excited. Tom Holland was great.

I still don't intend to see Homecoming, but I'm happy for those that are.

After watching this movie, I had many thoughts. Ones that stood out are:

  • Man, now I look forward to The Infinity War.
  • Man, DC is so damn outclassed.

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.

I've said this many times, but I was hoping that BVS would do well, simply so that MCU has a competition. But I knew that it would never work, because WB IS REFUSING TO REMOVE SNYDER.

[up]x4 Isn't it a little early to decide you're not seeing the movie?

It's not about the quality, I'm just not interested in seeing another Spider-Man solo film.

The ironic thing is that I expected Fox to be the one who might get left in the dust this year, but nope, they are holding on just fine (no matter if the X-men movie works out or not, they now have Deadpool), while Warner really lost their audience. Oh well, as long as Marvel is carrying the torch for the genre....

[up][up]Sorry, Spidey is pretty much my favorite fictional character, so I guess I have some Opinion Myopia when it comes to him.

I think Warner still has a passionate fanbase, not sure if they are enough to sustain a franchise, but we'll have to wait until Justice League.

I am likewise Spider-Man-ned out, and have been since before TASM 2 came out. I grew up a Spider-Man fan, and I'm sick of him now, and a bit annoyed by some of his fans. Thank you for at least recognizing that Opinion Myopia.

Warner has plenty of fans who stand by Synder's work and the cash to prove it. They're going to be fine, just not on Feige's level.
