Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

a Spy movie with Black Widow, Maria Hill and Sharon Carter

.....Okay, for some reason that immediately brought up in my mind this:

In my defense, that's actually a genuinely funny and awesome movie. [tup]

I've seen the film, can confirm. Jason Statham is the best part.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

That reminds me.

What are some actors you wish played a character in MCU?

Well, as for me:

Man, it's a shame that Tom Cruise never got the Iron Man role. I mean, RDJ is perfect, but still...XP

So I just realized Civil War continues the tradition of someone losing an arm. I haven't followed Agents of SHIELD or Agent Carter, but I'm pretty sure the tradition has gone undefeated- Netflix included -since the first Avengers, unless someone loses an arm in the first Captain America that I'm forgetting.

I saw Civil War today. It was AMAZING! Also, I think I'm gonna call Tony Stark "Tony Stank" from now on. ^_^

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

Agent Carter somehow didn't get the message and goes for legs instead of arms and hands. Agent of Shield solved the problem by loosing the same hand. Said hand is very handy, though. (they also have gotten into the habit of re-enacting scenes from the Captain America trilogy in the last episodes).

There is an Empire Strikes back reference in Civil war for a reason.

The current Ao S plotline seems like it could easily incorporate some Winter Soldier scenes, so that doesn't surprise me.

Actors I want to see in the MCU: I know she already briefly appeared, but I'd really love to see Natalie Dormer with a bigger role. Also, since the Game Of Thrones actors slowly seem to migrate to superheroing, is there no youngling role which can be taken up by Maisie "Arya Stark" Williams?

Speaking of losing limbs: Civil War Spoiler: Does Bucky count as Played With? I mean, he keeps losing his left arm.

He losses his arm because the MCU has a star wars fetish.

Ok they be d to hurry up and do Any Man 2 cuz Scott is LOL. Also Tony and Peter should have their own show. I would watch them two go back and forth all day

As long as we're picking actors for the MCU, I submit Kevin Spacey. Specifically for Norman Osborn. More specifically, to play a Dark Reign-era Norman Osborn. I wanna see him Frank Underwood the hell out of that role.

[up][up][up]Given how extremely well received Black Panther has been in Civil War, I think they might do the same thing with Danvers in Infinity War. Give her a supporting role and then spin her off into her own movie.

Perhaps, but they haven't really said if she is supposed to be in Infinity War 1 or 2. It would make sense, though. If she is in Infinity War 1, though, they have to announce her actress soon.

Feige said we'd likely hear something this summer. In fact that makes it more likely to me because they wouldn't need to be casting someone this early for a movie that probably won't start shooting until 2018.
