Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Some of those five movies were Iron Man 2 though.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersNow let's just hope making two Avengers movies doesn't break them like it did Joss Whedon.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I personally would like a movie where Widow doesn't have to share the spotlight with a kazillion other people.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. They could bring Hawkeye. Someone needs to play the damsel.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I just don't care about a Black Widow film. Not everyone needs a film, and I've gotten a lot of her, like Falcon, Hawkeye, etc, from previous films. It could probably be good, but what would it actually bring to the table besides Marvel saying "we want your money"?
And if it's just to have a female lead in a movie: Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, Jennifer Walters, Jessica Drew, Kamala Khan. They, like Black Widow, would have potential for an origin story, interactions with other characters, and new action. They're also uncharted territory.
Hell, part of the interesting stuff about Black Widow is that we ''don't' know everything about her.

" but what would it actually bring to the table besides Marvel saying "we want your money"?"
Just like Iron man 2 bring nothing aside the conexion to other hero, Iron man 3 being useless as Thor 2?
"And if it's just to have a female lead in a movie: Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, Jennifer Walters, Jessica Drew, Kamala Khan. They, like Black Widow, would have potential for an origin story, interactions with other characters, and new action. They're also uncharted territory. "
Is not jessica drew in a serie already? and I think kamala Khan could be use now in a movie but for the rest...I dont really want a origin movie, I really dont
"Hell, part of the interesting stuff about Black Widow is that we ''don't' know everything about her. "
Is less intersting now and becoming more annoying consider they haven reveal thing for a while, she is less "mysterious" and more "Bland" for it
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Honestly a Black Widow movie sounds really cool, especially if the Russo Brothers are behind it. A Black Widow project definitely needs people who understand how to write her character behind it, and they've earned my trust. (assuming of course their usual writing team of Mc Feely and the guy whose name escapes me come along as well)
"And kung fu is a terrible way to run a company" - alliteratorAlso, I think russo are better with fight when is badass normal, as Vision and Wanda feel very underused in the fight, so having a Black widow movie will better for them.
But who would be the villian? I said A.I.M since it allow all crazy shit and pseudo HYDRA without deaing with them because they are burn out in the moment.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"As that survey or whatever it said, there's definitely audience demand and therefore money to be made from a Black Widow solo movie. It doesn't have to necessarily delve into her backstory even. She can be the main plot-mover with Hawkeye and maybe Bucky (depending on his state) serving as backup. The Winter Soldier showed you don't need a lot of flashy special effects and superpowers in your fights to make a good movie, as long as the hand-to-hand combat is eyecatching and it features strong characterization and writing. Plus we can see more of her sneaky side as a sapper type and maybe that'll put to rest the idea that usefulness on the Avengers means more than just being able to punch or shoot really hard.
Anyway I'm not too worried about them not being able to make an interesting plot out of it. Yelena Belova is a popular choice for villain, or it could introduce Secret Invasion with her playing mindgames against her Skrull adversaries, complete with the usual spy film betrayals and questions of who to trust.
I would very much like a Black Widow movie, especially if it's done by someone like the Russos. Hawkeye and possibly Bucky as supporting characters would be great, too. And it's not like this keeps them from doing other movies with female leads. At least it shouldn't.
Someone above asked about Jessica Drew having a series - in case you mean a TV show, that's Jessica Jones. Jessica Drew is Spider-Woman, right?
I remember being a little iffy on the idea of a Black Widow movie in phase 3 since the MCU is getting bigger, louder, and more cosmic with each movie, and a movie about a character without tangible superpowers would be a massive step backwards.
But when I started thinking about it in Phase 4, a smaller scale spy-thriller starring Black Widow might be the just the thing the MCU needs. It can't really go any larger scale then Infinity War, so it's going to need a movie to yank things back into a more reasonable frame.
And sure she doesn't have tangible superpowers, but in the comics she was injected with a super-soldier serum, so why not just make that a plot point of her movie?
And I'd be cool with the Russos directing it since they are 2/2 on (in my opinion at least) getting Black Widow right.

"I'm slow, why'd he walk off? Can't be a meta-joke on the character because Olsen and Boseman's characters aren't American and they're there."
I thought it was more along the lines of :"Nah, I'm not joining this, you're all crazy." At least that's what I'm reading in his facial expression.
