Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up]Extremely easily. The Kree in the Captain Marvel movie are different from the ones in the show. Easy.

I haven't been keeping up with the show anymore so I have no idea if there are any named Kree characters, but as long as you avoid using those, you're fine.

[up][up] They're not doing another origin story, so he'll probably already be dead.

To quote a popular post, if they did another origin story I'd have killed Uncle Ben myself.

Time frame for when we'll find out who's playing Carol Danvers.

The current rumor/speculation is they're gonna announce the Captain Marvel actress at SDCC in two months, like they did with Chadwick at that independent Phase 3 announcement a few years ago.

Yeah, so far the only Kree that's appeared on Agents of SHIELD was a random civilian who happened to be keeping an eye on their ancient experiments. Mar-vell's reasons for coming to Earth (assuming he even comes to Earth) will likely have more to do with Thanos chasing the Infinity Stones.

[up]Yup. Or even to monitor/assess the superheroes of Earth or something.

Perhaps there is a scene in Infinity War in which Peter visits his Gandpa and he has made one for him....

Ya know, for all of Age of Ultron's faults, I think the ending scene with the Vision and Ultron talking was pretty cool.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

It is definitely my favorite scene of the film, and the one that feels the least studio-overfussed or Whedon-overcooked.

That scene alone is why I love the Vision.

Agents of Shield preview trailer spoiler, We're getting Kree in Ao S next week, so it's entirely possible that Ao S might leave a thread loose that is then confirmed later to have spawned Captain Marvel.

A thing is not bueatiful- yeah I know we just watched the same clip.

Ultron managed to be a cool villain though, and those are goldust in the MCU.

Soooo finally saw Civil War; I liked it, I really did... But I still have my issue with it. Here is my review on it, if you're curious:

This scene is the main reason I put Age of Ultron above the weaker entries in the MCU...I wish the movie had focussed on this storyline instead of throwing so much else into it.

I still like the overarching theme of AOU being the characters struggling with heteronirmative familal ideals. But I'm a nerd, and probably only appreciated that theme because it appealed to my tastes.

It's a nice lead into Civil War though, what with it establishing that Cap's family IS his comrades.

[up][up][up][up]I know it was meant to be a criticism, but the more I hear "It's not like the comic" the more excited I get.

[up] We are still discussing right and wrong in the spoiler threat, though it has become a little bit less heated.
