Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Okay, I really like Ant-Man's helmet/mask in this one.

More awesome full-face helms please. I want Ant-Man, Star Lord and Iron Man on screen together all at once.

Just returned from watching Captain America: Civil War. Only one trope to describe this: Nothing Is the Same Anymore. EDIT: Oh, the page already did...

As for Ant-Man's new face mask: New upgrades from Hank Pym? Also, LOL Scott, didn't you learn anything from Hope and her "that's how you punch" sessions?

On the other hand, I seriously hope Spider-Man's appearance doesn't eventually turn out to be one giant Big-Lipped Alligator Moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And by that, I mean Sony somehow f**king up Spider-Man's solo movies after this...

I think it is time to open up a Civil War spoiler threat so that those of us who are not living in the US can gush freely...

For the record, people who actually are from Berlin don't call "Berliner" "Berliner". They call them the German word for "pan cakes" (which is really confusing, because every part of Germany has another definition what "pan cakes" actually are).

So, back from watching the movie....thumbs up from me.

I would rank the movie at this point behind Winter Soldier and Got G, but I might change my mind down the line. The thing is that those two exceeded my expectations, but this one hit my expectations spot on. But I didn't really manage those very well, sooo..

one thing though, I watched in 3D because that was the only option for an early showing and I have the feeling that the action scenes are better without it. As some points I felt that it was a little bit distracting.

We didn't know this? It's an MCU movie so Marvel wouldn't like Sony doing something that contradicts other movies.

It felt kinda ambiguous to me from what I'd read in the past.

Well I'm not really surprised. Sony's bad decisions led to ASM 2. Given that Marvel has a good track record in making decisions that please audiences it makes sense to let them have the control, since it's less work for Sony.

Well, supposedly the original talk fell through because the studios weren't able to agree on creative control. This in mind, I expected that no matter what polite lie they tell, Sony must have been the one who gave in after the hack.

The Russos talking about the multi-character perspective of Infinity War.

Speaking to Den of Geek this week to promote Civil War, Russo revealed that would have to take a very different approach with these next films. "I think the process will become more intense on Infinity War," he said. "We are shooting both movies at the same time, [and] there are so many actors involved in those films. I think our narrative approach on those movies in going to be very unique to a superhero film."

"We're going to have to tell those stories from a multi-perspective," he explained. "We'll establish the story for one character, move to another character, establish the story, move to another character, establish the story, move to another character. And they'll all be heading to a unified narrative or plot."

I hope the POV hoping doesn't make plot disjointed, while the emotional story arcs half baked[up].
