Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Fun fact: Godzilla is canonically the reincarnation of all the people the died at Pearl Harbor, come back for revenge. Makes you wonder why there aren't two 10 times larger monsters attacking America that are the reincarnations of everyone in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or a 1,000 times larger monster attacking Germany that is the reincarnation of everyone who died in the Holocaust.

[up][up]

Other than that one time in Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, where that particular incarnation of Godzilla was the original 1954 one revived by the spirits of the dead Japanese soldiers of WWII, this is not true.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

I didn't know General Ross has sick guitar skills (and is a bobblehead).

The genius is that Ross is playing the opening riff from Thunderstruck. You know, General "Thunderbolt" Ross?

For some reason the Duff blimp shooting at Bucky and T'Challa made me laugh the hardest.

Not going to click but I assume by main page you mean Captain America: Civil War? I wouldn't post said spoilers anyway just in case.

The one involving Tony (hopefully I'm being vague enough).

Huh. That's supposed to be a spoiler?

....How the hell do I know that? I sure as hell don't read the comics. Where did I hear that...-scratches-

It was heavily implied, but never outright confirmed, either in-story or by Word of God.

Until now.

Also, my point is that someone might want to tell admin to seal the page or something, at least until the premiere (my country got this Wednesday).

I'd be in favor of sealing it. That putting spoiler tags on trope names is forbidden makes think we should go this route, because just the other day I deleted an entry where the name alone was a very massive spoiler.

[up][up][up], [up][up] If you're going to post spoilers, TAGS. SERIOUSLY.

Also, warning that they're Civil War spoilers to begin with would have been nice. It could've been Doctor Strange and I really don't care about spoiling myself on those.

It's kind of making the issue worse to bring up that there are spoilers on the main page and then bringing up the spoilers here without mentioning what movie or using the designated method of hiding spoilers.
