Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I saw another add, and I wonder how much of whatever the Accords are is going to be spelled out. Because there was a scene where Tony says "We need to be put in check". And Steve's retort: "Is that how you see this? It's internment!". At the same time as what I presume is the Underwater Prison is shown surfacing. Now, on the one hand Peggy Carter herself accused Steve of being "dramatic". On the other hand, he really doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would throw around words like 'internment' loosely. Especially considering his place in history, as well as the history that word calls up.
Sad and disappointed about the Inhumans movie being shelved for the forseeable future. I would've loved to see a movie co-starring Black Bolt as a Silent Protagonist and Medusa, with their friends and family (and pet) as the supporting cast.
Eh, at least that gives them more time to find out how to make the Inhumans from the movies match the Inhumans from Agents of SHIELD. Personally I mean no disrespect to Inhumans fans, but I don't know much about them and they aren't exactly the group I am the most interested in right now, so it doesn't really bother me that Marvel is focusing on other characters first.

As far as I can tell, there is really not much to match up. The Inhumans in Agents of Shield are just normal people who suddenly got superpowers because they have the fitting genetics and got in contact with the right alien stuff. Kind of like the X-men, but they are not born with the abilities but get them through the right trigger. The Inhumans for the movies are an isolated society of said people who keep themselves apart from humans and have built therefore their own set of rules. There is no need for any contact.

it would be about inhumans AOS cant afford to put on tv. Which is blackbolt and company. They are nothing like GOG and are known for taking part in court intrigue stories. There's an entire monarchy they thrive on. Kings, guards, councils, ambassadors, etc. It would take months to describe it all. Almost all inhumans off earth have a higher set purpose within the hierarchy caste
Secondly in AOS it was confirmed the Kree experimented on other aliens, so showing off Universal Inhumans is a possibility.
Thirdly the science fiction aspect is a little more hardcore than GOG. There are many technologies they use with details compared to GOG

Even before that I didn't really see anyone asking for an Inhumans movie. Which granted, means little in the context of superhero movies because most people weren't asking for a GOTG film either, but even so, the Inhumans are mostly an exercise in Marvel trying to make Fetch happen.

It would be a lie to claim that I asked for it (mostly because I had no idea who the Inhumans were), but once I looked into it, I was actually very interested. It sounds like it could be a better version of Game of Thrones is a really creative setting, if they handle it right. I just felt that it was odd to have the movie at the tail-end of Phase three instead of ending it with Infinity War 2, just like I felt it strange to end with Ant-man instead of Age of Ultron.
Regarding Fox's properties: they're very unlikely to cut a deal for either of them, for exactly opposite reasons.
X-Men is doing fine. Deadpool alone is reason enough for Fox to go, "Nope. We're doing fine on our own. Don't need the help, thanks."
Fantastic Four, on the other hand, is box office poison that nobody wants to touch with a ten-foot-pole. Even people rooting for the rights to revert are doing it so the MCU can use characters and concepts like Doom, Reed Richards, Galactus, etc. Not because they want to see a F4 movie.
But Fox wouldn't cut a deal that doesn't have a share of profits in it for them. They aren't going to broker a "You can use the character rights in miscellaneous assorted films," contract. If they make a deal, it would be involve a Fantastic Four movie. But, as noted, that's box-office poison.
And for Marvel's part, someone at Marvel years back actually made this point: don't wish for the F4 movies to fail so the rights revert because Marvel doesn't want the rights on a failure IP that's guaranteed to lose money.
Spider-Man hit that sweet spot of underperforming but still being successful. Sony and Marvel were both willing to cut a deal because there's a lot of interested in the character and he can be used to make successful movies that might reverse the franchise's downward trend now that it can ride on the MCU's coattails. But X-Men is too successful, while F4 failed too hard.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
I doubt that's what happened but I think some agreement took place. At least the animosity between the sides died down, I think.
It's amazing how much Marvel tried to make the Inhumans happen compared to how the GOTG were a smash with even the current GOTG comics don't have a vocal hatedom, save for the usual Bendis bashing
I wonder with the criticism of the Ancient One how Marvel will attempt to sanitize the Inhumans's problematic elements.

The company explicitly said that never occurred. Granted, they could be lying, but as far as I know, the rumor was debunked.
Part of it is that the Inhumns have been forced into the X-Men mold even though they don't fit it. A gay comic fan wrote an essay about why trying to cram Inhumans into the "Mutants as a minority metaphor" really doesn't work well, and why it's alienated so many readers who identified with the X-Men.

Sure, the Fantastic Four are pretty much dirt now UNLESS they get rebooted within the MCU. Then, I think, people would be interested. Also, it is well known that Marvel was ready to give Fox an extension on Daredevil If they got Galctus, Silver Surfer and some other Cosmic stuff in exchange. Fox didn't want to, so the rights for Daredevil reverted back, but while the F4 themselves have become practically worthless, all the cosmic characters are now worth more than ever because of the success of Got G. James Gunn himself has said how frustrating it is for him that so many characters are off-limits to him.
